Students from West Hartford's High Schools Awarded Van Horn Scholarship

Four high school seniors, one from each of West Hartford’s high schools, received the Van Horn Foundation Scholarship at a breakfast held Friday at Hall High School. 

This year’s recipients were Kim Vo from , Alli Denton from , Keenan Connery from , and Mary Shimkus from .

Harold and Phyllis Van Horn lived in the West Hartford community for over 50 years.  Harold was a structural steel worker and Phyllis was a sales clerk at a gift shop.  The couple did not have any children of their own and lived a modest lifestyle.  Phyllis created the Harold & Phyllis Van Horn Foundation to fund college scholarships for West Hartford residents who clearly demonstrate leadership in academics and community involvement.
