Viewfinder: Conard Soccer Displays its Talent in 5-0 Win over Southington

Chieftains put on an offensive exhibition outshooting Southington 20-1.

In a contest which pitted the Chieftains against the Southington Blue Nights, an offensive clinic was the end result.

In the first half, Conard took control of the game by outshooting Southington by a 12-0 margin. Despite the number of shots, at the half they found themselves up by only the one goal scored by Rodrigo Giraldo and assisted by Matheus Souza.

After some words by Coach Adam Linker at the half, the Chieftains finished the game even stronger putting up four more unanswered goals.

Despite some "missed opportunities," Coach Adam Linker expressed his appreciation for his team's overall efforts. When asked to summarize the game, Coach Linker noted, "We had a 5-0 victory. We had a really good game. [This team is] a coach's dream. They really do work hard."

Clearly, all the hard work paid off against Southington. With the win, Conard's record improves to 2-1 while Southington now stands at 1-1. The next game for Conard is slated for 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday Sept. 21 vs. New Britain at home.

Highlights:

Sophomore Rodrigo Giraldo led the Chieftains scoring with two goals.

Matheus Souza's efforts were highlighted by a goal and two assists.

Co-captain Colin Kuntz contributed to the scoring with a second half goal.

Junior Christopher Warren and freshman Erik Rieiro connected for the final goal of the game.

This is dreadful writing and editing. More should be said about Conard's horrible ability to score goals, not so much that the outshot an obviously outmatched Southington by such a huge margin. How about the Southington goalkeeper, he must have made a few stops, why no mention?

There is not doubt that goaltender Alexander Queen did an outstanding job for Southington, regardless of the final score. My apologies for not giving his efforts any mention in the game summary. Thank you for your comment.
