West Hartford High School Teams Compete for Championships

The girls hockey tournament and CIAC tournaments are in full swing as the winter sports seasons come to an close.

Student athletes from Conard, Hall, and Northwest Catholic have spent countless hours during the winter season on the ice, mat, court, track, and in the pool. Here is how their seasons are ending up.

Girls Ice Hockey is not yet a CIAC sport. However, the 2012 state champion Conard/Hall WarChiefs will defend their title against the New Canaan Rams in the State Championship on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at Terry Connors Rink in Stamford.

"Last year they defeated the New Canaan Rams in a stunning overtime win, bringing the trophy home to West Hartford for the first time in history. This year promises to be equally as dramatic, with the same two teams coming face to face again. Led by senior captains Bailey Amenabar (Hall), Rachel Aronow (Hall) and Caroline Kuzoian (Conard), and coached by Bruce Woolley, Kendra Pasciucco and Jenny Mancini, the team has worked diligently on and off the ice, banishing any crosstown rivalry that might exist in other sports. West Hartford wishes the girls every success in tomorrow's match. You make us proud!" a parent wrote Friday in an email to Patch.
