West Hartford Junior Recognized With Women in Technology Prize

Chinedum Uche honored for achievements in computing and technology.

A West Hartford junior at Hall High School and CREC’s Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science is one of just a handful of girls being recognized for achievements in computing and technology by the National Center of Women & Information Technology.

Chinedum Uche is one of 35 applicants selected to win the 2013 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing, according to a press release from the organization. The award is part of the national program aimed at helping young women bridge the gap from academic achievement to professional success in the computing fields, where women are still underrepresented.

Uche began learning computer science in sixth grade with the 3D programming software Alice and went on to attend an afterschool program focused on writing mobil phone applications. Currently, Uche is enrolled in AP computer science and is part of the Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science’s programming team.
