West Hartford Public Schools Are Closed Friday, Public Works Clearing Roads

Public Works has all trucks and some contractors clearing West Hartford's roads. A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect, and snow has made roads throughout the area very slippery.

The Superintendent's office has announced that all West Hartford Public Schools will be closed on Friday, March 8.

The National Weather Service upgraded the Winter Weather advisory to a Winter Storm Warning as of 2:45 a.m. Friday, with heavy snow predicted until midday. Additional accumulations in West Hartford of 1-2 inches are predicted with afternoon temperatures rising to 39, and north winds of 13-17 mph.

Director of Public Works John Phillips said that all of West Hartford's plow trucks are working to clear all arterial roads in time for the morning commute and several contractors have been brought in to assist in clearing the entire town.

"Residents should expect a very tricky ride this morning," said Phillips, as sow is still accumulating. "If you must travel, please delay your departure ... The snow is very sticky and wet which makes it heavy to move,"  Phillips said.

Both MDC properties, the Farmington Ave. reservoir and Reservoir #6, are closed for recreational purposes on Friday, the MDC said in a news release.
