West Hartford Public Schools Will Reopen Tuesday

No delay planned at this time, but that may change when conditions are reassessed Tuesday morning.

West Hartford Public Schools will be open on Tuesday, Feb. 12, according to Assistant Superintendent Tom Moore.

Moore said Monday afternoon that schools will be in session. "We do not anticipate a delay, but would announce it in the morning if necessary."

Moore asks for patience as well as caution on behalf of students and parents.

"We can assume bus delays," he said. He asks that children walking as well as people driving use extra caution as piles of snow are still extremely tall and may obstruct site lines.

Well I hope that by time my child has to stand a wait for the bus on the corner of South Quaker and ST James it will be cleared. Because as it looks right now all the children will have to stand in the street!!!

After receiving news that the schools will be open in town I took a walk with my son to his bus stop in order to gauge the condition of the street and his safety tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, some parts of the sidewalk aren't clear and in order for him to go to his bus stop he would have to walk in the street. The sidewalks are covered in slush that will turn them into a skating rink by morning and the snow is so high on the sides of driveways that is it well above my 6 year olds head and anyone pulling out or into those driveways would not be able to see him in time to avoid an accident. My son will not be walking to his bus stop tomorrow morning. Instead, my husband will be driving him to school. I truly wish the safety of our children was considered more in depth before making the call to re-open school.
