Smith STEM School Rocks the House with Hip Hop

Smit STEM school recently participated in a week-long hip hop program. Austin Dailey, a hip hop artist from Red Supreme was the artist-in-residence at Smith STEM. It was funded by Foundation of West Hartford Public Schools and a grant written by Kathy Miller, Physical Education Teacher at the school. He shared his expertise in Physical Education classes all week, teaching the students about the culture, history and basic hip hop dance skills. The Smith STEMCommunity celebrated with a Family Hip Hop Night with over 400 in attendance. At the end of the week, a school-wide assembly highlighted all the students and their work and dance routines throughout the week. At Family night, some of the students even got invited to learn how to "scratch" on the turn table. Austin invited two other members of "The Red Supreme Dance Company to join him. What an exciting week here at Smith! What a great way to engage in Physical Activity and have fun at the same time!
