1972 Conard High Football Team Honored at Halftime of Mayor's Cup Game

Legendary coach Robert J. McKee joins his former charges during the West Hartford Mayor's Cup on Friday evening.

The most poignant moment of an eventful Friday evening at McKee Stadium was when members of the 1972 Conard High football team gathered at midfield during halftime of the Conard-Hall football game.

The 1972 Chieftains went undefeated for the first time in school history and defeated Hall High 16-6. Those Chieftains yielded just 49 points the entire season.

Former head coach Robert J. McKee - who has the stadium named after him at Conard - met his former charges at the 50-yard line.

“I love all of you as sons,” McKee told his former players.

There have been just two football coaches at Conard High in the history of the program: McKee (from 1957 to 1983) and Rob Cersosimo, who has held the position since 1984.
