Hall and Conard Students Recognized for Success in Winter Sports

Athletes receive All Conference and All State honors.

The snow has finally melted, and all across town there are sure signs that spring is here. In the world of high school sports, athletes have been hard at work for the past few weeks, preparing for the upcoming season of baseball, softball, lacrosse, outdoor track and field, tennis, golf, and boys volleyball.

Even though we may want to put winter behind us for good, we need to recognize those high school athletes who worked hard, battling not only tough opponents but also weather-related cancellations of practices and continuous rescheduling of games and meets.

Betty Remigino-Knapp, Athletic Director for the West Hartford Public Schools, reported that the following athletes received All Conference honors:

Boys Basketball: Marcus Stevens (12).

Girls Basketball: Caelese Brown (12).

Gymnastics: Dana Feigenbaum (12), Dana Hadra (12), Ellen Bridgman (11), Shannon Bouvier (10), Taylor Hadra (10), and Katie Newton (10). 

Boys Ice Hockey: Kyle Weber (12) and Nick Miceli (11).

Boys Indoor Track and Field: Luke Perron (12) and Edward Wilson (11).

Girls Indoor Track and Field: Aubrey Waggoner (12).

Boys Swimming and Diving: Scott Brandner (12), Sam Cagenello (12), Luke Piscitelli (12), Mac Cherny - Diving (11), Will Thomas (11), Greg Youngstrom (11), Thomas Casper (10), and Ty Seymour (10).

Wrestling: Kevin Fisher (12), Danius Lancinskas (12), Johnny Bello (11), Ricky Cotton (11), Mike Fisher (10), and Lucas Muntz (10).

A considerable number of Conard’s athletes also received All State Honors and other special awards for performance in winter sports.

Senior Kyle Weber received All State honors for Boys Hockey. Johnny Bello and Lucas Muntz were named to the All State Team for Wrestling. Muntz, a sophomore, also received Academic All State honors.

Gymnasts Dana Feigenbaum, Dana Hadra, Taylor Hadra, and Katie Newton were named to the First Team All State. Ellen Bridgman and Shannon Bouvier received Second Team All State honors. Senior Dana Hadra also received an All State Academic award and was named to the High School Senior National Team.

The Boys Swimming and Diving Team won the CCC West Championship this year. Scott Brandner, Sam Cagenello, Luke Piscitelli, Greg Youngstrom, and Thomas Casper received All State honors.

At , Administrative Assistant Maryanne Seguro reported that the following athletes received All Conference Honors in the CCC:

Boys Basketball: Riley Carroll (12).

Girls Basketball: Sarah Binkhorst (12) and Moira Honyotski (11).

Gymnastics: Annie Tracey (12) and Paulina Rowe (10).

Boys Indoor Track and Field: Jeffrey Lipsman (12), Xavier Ruiz (12), Joel Pally (11), and Eli Shakun (11).

Girls Indoor Track and Field: Emily Holtzman (12), Elena Jay (12), Meghan O’Brien (12), Kodilichi Udeh (12), Perri Silverhart (11), and Alyssa Venora (10).

Boys Swimming and Diving: Jack Swain (12), Thomas Horigan (12), Brendan McClure (9), and Ethan Swain (9).

Wrestling: Artin Ghokasiyan (12).

Hall senior Jack Swain also received All State honors for Swimming. Gymnasts Annie Tracey and Paulina Rowe received Second Team All State Honors. Girls Basketball team member Sarah Binkhorst, a senior, received an Academic All State award.

The West Hartford Girls Hockey team – which includes players from both Hall and Conard, has not yet had its awards ceremony. We will publish information about any additional awards as soon as it becomes available.
