West Hartford Aquatic Team Recognized by Connecticut Swimming

Thirty-six swimmers place on the annual Top 16 Performance list.

The following is a press release:

The West Hartford Aquatic Team was recognized by Connecticut Swimming last Sunday at the Aqua Turf in Southington with the placement of 36 swimmers on the annual Top 16 Performance list for the 2012-2013 Short- and Long-Course Seasons.

All of the listed athletes are invited to receive their awards in November at the CT Swimming Top 16 Awards Banquet held at the Aqua Turf.

“The number of WHAT athletes and the variety of strokes in which they have qualified show the dedication of the athletes and the coaching staff,” says head age group Jim Santiago, who has been coaching with Rob Riccobon for the past 10 years.

The WHAT swimmers not only achieved success in the pool, but in the classroom as well, being nominated for 6 CT Swimming scholar athletes awards. Swimmers must meet the following criteria to be considered for this prestigious honor:

1. Completed 10th, 11th or 12th grade

2. Participated in the CT Senior Championship

3. Maintain a 3.5 out of 4.0 GPA for the entire 2012-2013 Academic Year

Receiving recognition at this year’s CT swimming Top 16 Banquet are: Jonny Boains; Matthew Gwozdecke; Brendan McClure; Danielle Rocheleau; Max Vitkin and Emily Wertheimer.

“The WHAT organization impresses upon our athletes the importance of academics and we are very proud of our swimmers,” said Riccobon.
