West Hartford Athletes on Campus: Cudo Scores Game Winner for Southern Vermont

A weekly feature of the best from former West Hartford scholastic athletes.

Big week for West Hartford athletes, leading off with Rachel Cudo (Hall High ‘12), a sophomore defender on the Southern Vermont College women’s soccer team, who scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute of the match to give the Mountaineers a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Mitchell on Oct. 12. It was the first goal of the year for Cudo, who has played in six matches in 2013, starting four. The Mountaineers are 4-5-1. … Elena Jay (Hall High ‘11) is a junior on the Bates College women’s cross country team. She played third on her team and 105th overall in the NEICAAA XC Championships in Boston on Oct. 12. Her performance helped the Bobcats to an 18th place finish out of 43 teams. Evan Ferguson-Hull (Conard High ‘13) is a freshman on the Bates College men’s cross country team. … Steven Hild (Kingswood Oxford ‘11), a junior linebacker on the Bates College football team, ranks fourth on the Bobcats with 27 tackles in four games this year. He has also recovered one fumble. … Megan O’Brien’s (Hall ‘11), Fairfield University women’s soccer team is 8-5-1 on the year. O’Brien, a defender, has started 12 of Fairfield’s 14 matches and has a goal and an assist this season. Teammate Emily Wieczorek (Hall ‘12) has also appeared in eight matches for the Stags. … Michaela Celella (Conard High ‘12), a sophomore on the Wesleyan University field hockey team, has appeared in all nine matches for the Cardinals, who are 4-5 on the year. She has scored one goal. … Dominique Spaulding (Conard High ‘12), a sophomore defensive lineman on the Mount Ida College football team, is tied for the team lead in sacks with 1.5. He has also registered 23 tackles in five games for Mount Ida, which is 2-3 on the year. … Adam Glynn (Hall High ‘12), a sophomore defensive back on the Western New England College football team, ranks fifth on the team with 20 tackles in four games. The Golden Bears are 1-3 on the year. … Claire O’Brien (Hall High ‘13), a freshman defender on the Stonehill College women’s soccer team, has started all 12 games for the 3-7-2 Skyhawks. … Jon Esposito (Conard High ‘11) is a junior running back on the Princeton football team. He’s had two carries for 11 yards in four games this year.
