West Hartford Athletes on Campus: Youngstrom Headed to NCAAs

A weekly roundup of the best from former West Hartford scholastic athletes who are now playing in college.

After a brief hiatus to account for the winter break, West Hartford Athletes on Campus is back.

Greg Youngstrom (Conard High ‘12), a sophomore on the Keene State men’s swimming team, is having quite a season. Indeed, the former Chieftain recently qualified for the NCAA Men's Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in the following events: 50 free, 100 free, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. The Championships will be held in Indianapolis in March. … Sara Binkhorst (Hall High ‘11), a junior on the Bowdoin College women’s basketball team, continues to enjoy a successful season. Binkhorst scored 11 points on Jan. 10 in a 58-56 victory over Connecticut College. The following evening, Binkhorst scored a game-high 15 points in a 65-45 victory over Wesleyan. She is averaging nearly 11 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game for the 14-1 Polar Bears. …  Eliza Maciag (Hall High ‘13), a first-year on the Trinity College women’s swimming and diving team, set a school record in the 100 back on Jan. 11, winning the event in 1:00.48. … Emily Corrales (Conard High ‘13), a first-year on the University of New England women’s ice hockey team, scored a goal in a 3-2 loss to Salve Regina on Jan. 11. Corrales is tied for first on the team in goals (8) and is third in scoring (12 points). … Tyler Huffman (Northwest Catholic ‘12), a sophomore guard on the Clark University men’s basketball team, ranks third on the team in scoring at 7.6 points per game. He scored 13 points in a 75-55 victory over Southern Maine on Dec. 30. … Dana Hadra (Conard High ‘11) is a junior diver on the Boston College women’s swimming and diving team.
