Sunday, May 6

Hall's Market edges out Talcott Transmission 10-9 in extra innings

In a back to back extra inning game, Hall's came out on top.  In a back and forth game the scoring started in the first with Hall's taking an early lead 1-0. Talcott responded with an RBI single by Jack Livingstone in the bottom half.  Hall's scoring continued in the third inning with an RBI double by Nick Gaglioti (2-4, HR, double) and a solo home run by Michael Giungi. 

Talcott responded in the bottom half with an RBI triple by Michael Ciccarello (3-3,triple, double, single) scoring Cooper McKeown.  Halls went ahead in the 5th with a solo homerun by Nick Gaglioti his forth of the season.  In the bottom of 5th Talcott went ahead by 3 with runs by Ciccarello, John Kozak and Declan Kiley (2-4).

In the top of the 6th, down 7-4 and 2 outs,  Hall's mounted a comeback. It was started by Matthew Shea reaching base on an overthrow. Sam Patterson followed with a walk and then a single by Michael Baldini (4-5, 4 runs), the score was 7-5. Nick Gaglioti was intentionally walked with men on 2nd and 3rd. Charlie Murray (2-4, 2B, 1B), with the bases loaded, delivered a single driving in 2 runs to tie the game.

Halls kept the momentum going into extras, scoring three in 8th.  Halls was able to suppress a mounted comeback by Talcott in the bottom half leaving the bases loaded.  Hall's pitching was lead by Jake Patterson having to relieve Tommy Costello in the middle of the 2nd. Jake threw 4 strong innings and kept Hall's in the game. Gaglioti pitched the final 3 innings striking out 6 giving up only 2 runs, picking up the win.

Talcott was lead by starter Michael Ciccarello going 3 strong giving up only 3 runs. John Kozak, Connor McKeown and Cooper Swift pitched well for Talcott.

Connors Beats Cornelius 2-1

Connors won its first game after two close games loses. Connors three pitchers Colby Jones, Dom Niman and Max Main pitch a combined 1 hitter. Main was the winning pitcher pitching two scoreless innings in the 5th & 6th. John Kirklin and Niman drove in the two runs. Playing excellent defense was Drew Booth and Jack McGovern. Booth and Kirklin scored the two runs. Playing well for Cornelius was Ryan Caron who had the one hit and Luke Carroll who pitched two scoreless innings with 5 strike outs.

Rotary 28 Lions 9

Rotary scores early and often on its way to a 28-9 win over Lions Club. In a shortened game, Rotary had 35 base runners over 4 innings with 17 hits and 18 walks. Rotary scored 7 runs in the 1st highlighted by a double and single from Adam Glassman and hits from Alex Lim, Jeffrey Beach and Mario Volpe. Lions struck back with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st on 5 hits from Matt Lazor, Harry Freda, Kyle Milhomens, Roger Lin and Trevor Ratchford. Rotary added 6 more runs in the 2nd inning and 2 additional runs in the 3rd to take a 15-4 lead. Lions scored 2 in the 3rd to make it 15-6 but Rotary responded with 13 runs in the top of the 4th to make it 28-6 and put the game out of reach. Lions scored 3 times in the bottom of the 4th to complete the scoring for the day at 28-9.

For Rotary at the plate, Ryan Orlowski was 3-4 with 3 doubles, 4 Runs and 4 RBI, Alex Lim was 3-4 with 4 Runs and 3 RBI, Adam Glassman was 2-4 with a double, 3 Runs and 4 RBI and Mario Volpe was 2-4 with 3 Runs and 3 RBI. Timmy Andrews, Jonathon Sanchez, Matt Azia, Josh Fernandes and Michael Bevilacqua all had one hit. For Lions at the plate, Kyle Milhomens was 3-4 with a double, 2 Runs, 1 RBI and Matt Lazor, Harry Freda, Jack Lazor, Roger Lin, Trevor Ratchford and Nick DeMichele all had one hit.

Glassman started on the mound for Rotary pitching 2 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits with 4 Ks. Alex Lim pitched 2 innings allowing 5 runs on 4 hits with no Ks. Matt and Jack Lazor, Roger Lin and Thomas Grady all pitched for Lions Club.

Mr. Trophy Beats Blue Back Dental 13-10.

Mr. Trophy started out strong on defense getting the first 2 outs in the first. J.T. Wojciechowski (4 for 4) singled and stole 2nd base. Max Ryan hit a single to center and Wojciechowski tried to score but was cut down on a strong throw from Casey Shane (3 for 3) to Will Jackson (4 for 4) to Ben Lumbruno (1 for 1). In the Mr. Trophy half of the inning Shane got the scoring going with a Home Run. Will Jackson followed on the next pitch and hit his first of 2 Home Runs. Mr. Trophy extended their lead to 3 when Lumbruno singled in the second and scored on a bases loaded walk to Shane. Blue Back Dental came back to tie the score in the top of the 3rd when Tanner Bruttomesso (3 for 3) singled and advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Bruttomesso scored on a single by Ryan DuLutrie (3 for 4). Wojciechowski followed with a double which allowed DuLutrie to score. Max Ryan (1 for 4) reached on a fielding error which allowed Wojiechowski to score the tying run. Mr. Trophy got out of the inning when Ryan was caught stealing Lumbruno to Jackson. In the bottom of the 3rd Mr. Trophy broke the tie when Jackson hit the second of his 2 Home Runs. Blue Back Dental was held scoreless in the 4th and Mr. Trophy extended their lead with a 4 run 4th inning. Danny Harris (1 for 2) started the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error. Shane followed with a double which scored Harris. Jackson followed with a single which scored Shane. Jonathan Perez (4 for 4) followed with a single to left. Both runners advanced on a ground ball out by Anthony Mancini (0 for 3). Both runners later scored on a single by Brian Flynn (1 for 3). Mateo Maturana (0 for 3) pitched 4 strong innings for Mr. Trophy giving up just 4 runs. Perez came in to start the 5th and was greeted with 4 straight hits from Bruttomesso, Justin Surowiec (1 for 4), DeLutrie and Wojciechowski. All 4 scored in the inning. Perez then found his groove striking out the next 3 batters.
Mr. Trophy again answered with 5 runs in their half of the inning. Harris led off with a walk and stole second. Shane singled which advanced Harris to third. Jackson hit a double which scored Harris and moved Shane to third. Perez singled scoring Shane and Jackson. Mancini walked and stole second. Perez scored and Mancini moved to third on a wild pitch. Bryan Albee (0 for 1) walked and stole second, Mancini scored on the overthrow to second which Albee tried to advance to third but was called out on a close play. Blue Back Dental fought back in the top of the 6th with 3 runs but Mr. Trophy was able to get the final out preserving the win.

Talcott Transmissions 13 Lions 1

Cornelius Beats Hall's Market 16-6

The Cornelius bats came alive with strong performances by Luke Carroll (4-5, 1 double), Jimmy Shepard (3-4, double, first major league HR, 4 RBIs), Max Leyland (2-3), and Tom Dowd (2-4). Carroll pitched 4 strong innings (3 K) scattering 5 hits. He was helped by some stellar defense from Jack Moore at shortstop and a great gun to second by catcher Ivan Ribeiro. The Hall’s offense included 3 home runs: one from Nick Gaglioti and two from Charlie Murray but could convert these to only 6 runs. Murray pitched 2 solids innings (3 K).

Blue Black Dental defeats West Hartford Rotary 9 – 5.

Blue Black Dental edged Rotary 9 – 5 in a well played game at Wolcott Park on Thursday. Ryan DeLutrie led BBD by pitching four outstanding innings, tallying six strikeouts. Naji Middleton closed the game by pitching two strong innings. Justin Surowiec (2-4, 2 RBI’s) and Miguel Yancce (1-2, Double) led BBD‘s offense. DeLutrie, JT Wojciechowsk, Brendan Moore, and Middleton all contribute with a hit. Rotary also played well. Ryan Orlowski (HR and 4 RBI’s) and Alex Lim (RBI) both went 2 for 3. Adam Glassman, Patrick Baron, and Ryan Orlowski all pitched two innings.

Connors Beats Mr. Trophy 8-7.

Connors won its second 1 run game in row. Max Main (2-1) was the winning pitcher in relief. Connors came back from a 5-0 deficit after 2 innings and was down by 2 runs with 2 outs in the 6th inning when a 2 out rally produced the winning run. Connors offense was led by Dominic Niman and Colby Jones who each had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. One of Jones' hits was his first home run. Jack McGovern and Drew Booth led the team with decisive defensive plays at 2nd and shortstop. Casey Shane and Will Jackson led Mr. Trophy with key hits and each scored 3 runs. Bryant Albee also had a strong game for Mr. Trophy.

Connors Beats Lions 19-2 (4 Innings)

Connors won its third game in a row with a solid victory over the Lions Club. Colby Jones (1-0) was the winning pitcher. The Connors offense was led by Max Main and Andrew Ferrucci who both had 2 hits, 2 runs scored, and 2 and 3 RBI's respectively. Dom Niman also was strong with 2 hits and three runs scored. Joe Stern had a strong game defensively and 2 hits. Harry Freda and Thomas Grady played well for Lions.

Saturday, May 12

Cornelius Beats Rotary 15-3.

Cornelius beat Rotary today 15-3 behind 5 no-hit innings from Jack Moore (8 K’s) . The Cornelius bats were hot for the second straight game with a strong game turned in by Will Hutensky (3-3), Luke Carroll (3-4), Jimmy Shepard (3-4), and Moore (3-4). All four had 1 double as did Ivan Ribeiro who caught the whole game and threw out a runner at 2nd. Bryant Caron (2-3) had 2 doubles. Mike Cagnetta drew two walks, scored twice and made a great back-up play stopping a run. Rotary used smart base running from Timmy Andrews who scored twice together with Adam Glassman to plate 3 runs without a hit.

Mr. Trophy beats Talcott Transmission 16-7

Talcott jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Cooper Swift (2 for 4) started it with a single and he later scored on a double by John Kozak (1 for 3). Kozak advanced to third on a throw to the plate and later scored on a wild pitch while Nicholas Klingman (0 for 1) was at bat. Klingman was hit by a pitch and scored later on a wild pitch. Jack Livingstone (0 for 2) and Nathan White (0 for 1) both walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Connor Mckeown (1 for 2) hit a single up the middle that scored Livingstone. While Ben Foxman (0 for 1) was at bat McKeown stole second and white scored on the throw to second. McKeown later advanced to third and scored on wild pitches. The inning ended when Brian Flynn (2 for 2) made a great catch on a hard line drive by Swift.

Mr. Trophy started the comeback with a single and stolen base by Casey Shane (3 for 4). Will Jackson (2 for 2) and Anthony Mancini (1 for 3) both walked to load the bases with 2 outs. Mateo Maturana (1 for 3) singled to score Shane. While Flynn was batting Jackson scored on a wild pitch and then Flynn hit a single that scored Mancini bringing the score to 6-3 after the 1st. Talcott started the 2nd with a runner on third and no outs do to a throwing error by Maturana. Maturana then found his groove on the mound and got 2 quick outs on with a line out to short and a pop out to third. Ryan tried to score on a stolen base but was tagged out by Jackson.

Mr. Trophy closed the gap with a single by Brady Tober (2 for 4) and a triple by Danny Harris (2 for 4). Harris was cut down trying to steal home. Shane doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jackson. Jonathan Perez (3 for 4) came in for Mr. Trophy and held Talcott scoreless in the 3rd. Mr. Trophy was inspired by injured catcher Ben Lumbruno appearing to cheer them on as they scored 6 runs after he appeared. Maturana was hit by a pitch and Flynn walked. Matt Jenkins (1 for 2) hit a single to load the bases. Tober singled to score Maturana and Flynn scored on a throwing error. Harris singled scoring Jenkins and Tober. Jackson doubled with 2 outs scoring Harris and then Perez singled scoring Jackson.

Talcott got another run in the top of the 4th when Swift doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. Mr. Trophy scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th. It started on a throwing error allowing Maturana to reach second and he scored on a single by Flynn. Flynn later scored on a wild pitch. After holding Talcott scoreless in the 5th Mr. Trophy scored their final runs in the bottom of the inning. Shane singled and stole second. Jackson singled scoring Shane. After singles by Perez and Mancini to load the bases. Jackson later scored on a wild pitch. Flynn walked and when Bryan Albee (0 for 2) grounded out to 1st Perez scored the final run. Foxman led off the 6th inning for Talcott with a walk and he advanced to third on a passed ball and a stolen base. With one out swift hit a pop up in foul territory that Jackson made a great running catch and then he turned made a strong throw that caught Foxman off the base for the final out.

AC Petersen Holds Off Keating 7-6

Andrew Nicklas, Jack Tapia and Tim Simplicio had the big hits and Elias Heinen's stellar defense and diving catch double play with one out and bases loaded make the difference as ACP records it second win of the season. In the top of the first inning, ACP started strong with hits by Tyler Correia and Jack Tapia to start the game. The next two batters had short fly ball outs and the once hot rally was fading, but the next batter, Andrew Nicklas hammered a double to left-center notching two RBI's and the lead for AC Petersen, 2-0. In the bottom of the inning, Keating came right back with two of their own on a deep single by Hugh Wells, another deep single by James Gadue, and a hit by Franklin Robinson to bring home two. In the top of the second, ACP rallied two more runs as Peter Simplico (on from an error) and Tyler Correia who was hit by a pitch were on base. Simplicio scored on another double by Tapia and Correia was brought home on a single by Tim Simplicio. In the bottom of the second, Keating went three up and three down and ACP hung to a 4-2 lead after two full. In the top of the third inning ACP etched another run from an RBI single by Bryan Renker. In Keating's turn, another hit by Wells and then Sean Hurley led to the two men on, first and second. The next batter drilled a single to left field. Elias Heinen fielded the ball and threw an absoute bullet home to catcher Tim Simplicio to keep the lead runner from scoring. It was now bases loaded and no outs. The next batter K'd, but with only one out, the Keating rally still looked strong. The next batter hit a shot to left field but Heinen made a great diving catch and was able to get a double play as the runner from third had already bolted for home and with that the inning was over. After three innings, ACP 5 Keating 2.

In the fourth inning AC Petersen continued to provide insurance runs. A single by Jack Tapia set the stage for Tim Simplicio who smashed an opposite field home-run to bring the score to a "comfortable" 7-2 for ACP. The rest of the game was quiet as Keating and AC Petersen's pitching and defense held each other at bay. That was until the bottom of the sixth when Keating had four hits in a row. The first batter grounded out and it looked as though Keating would go quietly. But that would not be as another hit by Robinson, a double by Alex Dobbins, and two more singles by Chris Pang and Jack Ledwith and then an error by AC Petersen on the next batter led to four runs and a runner on second. The score was now 7-6 with only one out and the tieing run on second base. Things did not look good for AC Petersen as Keating had the momentum, the karma and the top of the order coming up. But showing how fickle the baseball gods can be, on the next play the Keating batter lined out to second baseman Bryan Renker who bobbled the ball but was able to settle it down and then throw to second for the double play as the runner had strayed from the bag by just a step. Game over ACP 7, Keating 6.

Stand-out performances were made by ACP's Jack Tapia (3 for 4, two doubles and a single) and Tim Simplicio (2 for 4 with a two-run homer). Keating was led by Hugh Wells (2 for 4), James Gadue (2 for 3), Frank Robinson (3 RBI's) and Alex Dobbins (2 for 3).

Modern Tire Beats Exchange 5-2 on Walk-Off Home Run in 7th

With Gus Murchie (9 K's, 2 BB, 2 H, 1 R) starting on the mound for Tire dealing a 4 up 3 down scoreless first, Exchange Club was able to squeak out a passed ball steal/score by Sean O’Meara who reached by taking one for the team in the second. Sean’s brother Brendan led off the third by roping a single, only to be caught stealing home on a passed ball by great defense from Murchie and catcher Griffin Van Rye (2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R).

Modern Tire was mostly shut down for the first 5 innings, except for a walk to Van Rye in the first, a hotly hit ball from Coly Lytle (2 for 4, FC, 1 R) in the third, and another hot single from Spencer Goulet (1 for 3, 1B) in the fifth. The score remained at 1 in favor of Exchange. Exchange’s Matt Beazoglou came back in the top of the sixth to score one more by reaching after lashing a triple, and then scoring on Brendan Begley’s infield grounder, putting him on. Begley then reached second on a passed ball. Sean O’Meara then smoked a towering ball to the warning track, only to be caught by Lytle. Lytle then threw a frozen rope to third, nailing Begley for an 8-5 double play.

In the bottom of the sixth with Lytle hitting a leadoff single Andrew Skwiot hit into a fielder’s choice for the first out. Pinch runner Trevor Dease came in, running for Skwiot. Dease made it to third and then attempted a steal of home on a passed ball. Dease’s base running instinct drove him back to the bag, only to be caught in an Exchange Club pickle.

Still scoreless, MT’s Van Rye hit a hard single to get on with 2 outs. He made his way to third and the next batter Murchie patiently drew a walk off of Exchange’s ace Begley. Van Rye scored on a passed ball while Josh Ort also walked. A battle then ensued with 2 on and 2 out between Begley and batter Chris LaMarco (1 for 3, 2B, RBI) who worked the count then scorched a game tying double bringing in Murchie. Begley got the next batter on a strike out, sending the game into extra innings.

The top of the seventh saw Brendan O’Meara hit a hot double to lead off. The inning then faded for the Exchange Club with Van Rye dealing a strike out, ground out, and Liam Stone who supported his team by hauling in a towering fly.

The bottom of the seventh saw 5 MT batters. Of the first 2, one reached then was put out on a Lytle fielder’s choice. Skwiot then drew a walk from Begley who was still on the mound for Exchange. With 2 on and out for Modern Tire, Exchange called a pitcher’s conference as batter Van Rye made way to the batters box. The conference ended, Begley pitched and Van Rye swung. The result was a walk off 3 run bomb for Griffin Van Rye to win the game.

K of C 21 Berry Insurance 0

Drew Hungerford (4 for 4, 2 HR, 6RBI) blasted 2 home runs and Luke Fox (2 for 4, HR, 6RBI) blasted a grand slam home run to lead K of C to a victory over a Berry team that never quit. Hungerford hit a 2 run shot in the 1st and a 3 run shot in the 2nd, while Fox launched a grand slam homer to deep left in the 3rd as the Knights scored in every inning. Avi Ehrlich (4 for 4, 3RBI), Sean Macary (1 for 2), Andrew Mitchell (1 for 3, 2B, 2RBI) and Chase Jeter (2 for 2, 2RBI) were the hitting stars for the Knights.

Nick Becker pitched 3 scoreless innings, allowing only 1 hit while striking out 5. David Regan had the lone hit for Berry, a liner to left. Ben Martin was super behind the plate, and Nathaniel Gonzalez played well at 2nd base.

Venora Electric Beats Police 6-2

In a well played game at Beachland, Venora used the long ball to pick up its third win. Venora jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st on a long double from Sean Langan followed two batters later by a two run home run to right centerfield from Javi Jerez. In the bottom of the 2nd, Police tied the score 2-2 of Venora ace Sean Langan on three walks to Pat Gustafson, Chase Maxwell, and Devin Mahoney and an RBI single from Will Carpenter. Venora immediately responded with four runs in the top of the 3rd led by a two run home run from Langan, a solo home run from Jerez, a single by Ryan Smith, and double from Gabe Salomons for a 6-2 lead. Pitching and defense took over from there as Venora pitchers Dan Fitzsimmons (2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K's) and Josh Wolmer and Police pitchers Ryan Cova and Carpenter (2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB) did not allow any more runs.

The Venora offense was led by Jerez (2 for 3, 2 home runs, 2 runs, 3 RBI's), Langan (3 for 3, 2 doubles, home run, 2 runs, 2 RBI's), Smith (2 for 3, run), Salomons (double). Smith was great behind the plate, throwing out a runner at 3B in the 6th and tagging out another runner at the plate to end the game on a great 8-4-2 relay.

The Police offense was led by Trent Wechsler (2 for 4, 2 doubles), Cova (2 for 3, double), Maxwell (1 for 2, walk, run), and Devin Mahoney (2 walks). The Police defense was sharp all game led by Wechsler in CF, Mahoney in LF, and Matt Langevin at SS.

Exchange defeats A.C. Petersen’s 10-4

An undermanned yet determined Exchange club beat A.C Petersen’s 10-4 behind sharp pitching and excellent hitting and defense. Exchange had to play the contest with 8 players and battled hard all evening , combining 12 hits and strong pitching to pull off the victory. Exchange got the bats going in the 2nd when Sean O’Meara (1 for 3, 2 runs scored) singled. Jon Brea (1 for 3, 2 rbi’s) followed with a walk and both were brought home by a Kyle Armstrong(2 for 4, 3 rbi’s) single. In the 3rd, Exchange added to the lead with Matt Beazoglou (3 for 3, 2 doubles, rbi), Brendan Begley(2 for 3, double, rbi) and Sean O’Meara all scoring. The Exchange team also added two more in the 4th and 3 in the 5th . Brendan O’Meara( 2 for 4, triple) started the bats in the 5th with a triple to left, followed by Begley and Beazoglou scoring on another Armstrong hit . Aiden Shea also added a hit to the Exchange attack and Neil Gustafson got hit by a pitch to insure that all 8 Exchange batters reached base at least once. Shea made a heads up defensive play in the 5th to shut down a Petersen’s rally, when he tagged out Andrew Nicklas who over ran second on a ball hit to right. Exchange pitchers Begley and Beazoglou combined to hold the Petersen club to 4 hits while striking out 12. Brendan O’Meara had a strong night behind the plate catching the hard throwing Begley for 4 innings.

A.C Petersen’s were led by the play of Tim Simplicio behind the plate. Tyler Correia pitched a very strong 1st inning while Bryan Renker and Carl Nicklas had solid singles.

Thursday, May 10

Keating beats Modern Tire, 6-5

Keating and Modern Tire battled back and forth Thursday, with Keating coming back in the bottom of the 6th for the win. Colby Lytle started things off quickly for Modern Tire, with a lead off home run over the centerfield fence. Keating starter, James Gadue, took control, thereafter, allowing only 2 more runs over the first 5 innings. Gadue (5.1 IP, 8 Ks) pitched a gem, before being lifted with one out in the 6th due to pitch count. Behind 4-3 in the top of the 6th, Modern Tire stormed back to take a 5-4 lead behind the aggressive baserunning of Christopher LaMarco and Trevor Dease. Keating was able to put together a rally in the bottom of the 6th on hits by Franklin Robinson, Alex Dobbins and Tim Cotter. Closer Jace Meyer picked up the winning RBI, battling at the plate to draw a walk off walk--sealing the Keating win 6-5.

Offensive stars for Modern Tire were Lytle (2 for 3, HR) and Gus Murchie (2 for 3). The Keating offense was led by Hugh Wells (2 for 3, HR), Gadue (2 for 3), Robinson (2 for 3), and Cotter (2 for 3, HR).

Friday, May 11

Knights of Columbus 12 Keating Insurance 4

Luke Fox (3 for 4, 3B, HR, 4 RBI), Avi Ehrlich (3 for 4, 2B, RBI) and Chase Jeter (3 for 5, 2B, RBI) paced the hitting attack as K of C pushed its record to 5-0 with a victory over Keating. The Knights scored 5 in the 1st highlighted by Fox's 2 run triple. Fox tripled after Paul Wilson led the game off by drawing a walk, followed by a single from Jeter and a RBI single by Drew Hungerford (1 for 4, RBI) to plate Wilson. In the 3rd, Will Layden had an RBI single as the Knights scored 3 more times, and Ehrlich had an RBI double in the 4th inning to score another run. K of C put the game away in the 5th, scoring 3 more times. Jeter and Fox were in the middle of things again, Jeter doubling home Layden who had reached on an error, and Fox singled home another run.

Keating got an outstanding performance from Sean Hurley, who went 3 for 3 with an RBI double, and played stellar at SS. Jack Ledwith had the other Keating hit. Franklin Robinson at 2B and Alex Dobbins in LF had great nights defensively for Keating.

Berry Beats Exchange 10-9

Berry outlasted Exchange 10-9 in a back and forth game which featured great defense and pitching. Exchange took the early lead 3-0 after 2 innings with great at bats by Patrick Mahon (2-3, double, RBI) and Michael Farley (2-3, 2 doubles, RBI). Berry fought back by putting up 7 runs in the top of the 3 inning. The inning started off with 4 straight walks followed by a 2 RBI double by Noah Matalon (2-3, double, 2 RBIs), an RBI single by Ned Blanchard (1-3, RBI) and a 2 run blast by Drew Nemirow (3-4, double, HR, 2RBIs). Exchange never gave up as they answered by adding 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd behind the bats of Brendan Begley (1-3, double) and Michael Farley. Berry was able to tie the score at 9 in the 4th inning when Drew Nemirow led off with a double and advance to 3rd on great base instincts. Nemirow then scored as David Regan (2-4, 2 runs) reached base on a fielder’s choice. David then advanced to 2nd and 3rd on passed balls and ended up scoring on an over throw from the catcher. Exchange bats were then silenced by Drew Nemirow as he pitched 3 scoreless innings with 7 Ks. Berry then add the winning run in the top of the 6th inning. With great patience at the plate Berry was able to load the bases. Jordan Frank (1-1, RBI) then got HBP bringing in the deciding run.

Exchange defense was led by Brendan O’Meara who made a leaping catch on a line drive robbing Andrew Wendorff of extra bases.

Berry’s defense was led by Noah Matalon who made a couple of great plays at first and Nathaniel Gonzalez who was a to record 2 outs on hard hit balls by Matthew Beazoglou included the last out of the game.

Home Runs - Drew Nemirow

Venora Electric Beats A.C. Petersen 5-4 in 8 Innings.

In an exciting well played game, Chase Rancourt lashed a single to deep center in the bottom of the 8th to score Josh Kennedy and give Venora the comeback walk-off win. ACP's bats were hot early as they scored all four of their runs in the first two innings led by Andrew Nicklas (walk, run), Tyler Correia (single, run), Jack Tapia (single run), and Tim Simplicio (sac fly, double, 2 RBI's). Venora scored a single run in the 1st on a passed ball and another in the 4th on an RBI single from Kennedy, but ACP's starter Colin Fitzsimonds (4 IP, 3 K's) pitched well allowing only one ball out of the infield. Venora tied the game in the 5th when Sean Langan and Josh Wolmer scored on an error. Tyler Correia pitched out of trouble in the 6th getting Langan to pop up with runners on 2nd and 3rd. For Venora, Wolmer pitched in and out of trouble over four scoreless innings for the win aided by some great defense.

Venora's offensive stars were Kennedy (2 for 3, run), Rancourt (game winning RBI), Dan Fitzsimmons (2 for 4), and Sean Langan (2 runs). Langan had a game saving relay throw from the outfield in the 8th, Archie Southgate prevented a hit on a throw from rightfield to second base, and Fitzsimmons threw out a runner on his back at 2B in the defensive play of the game.

ACP was led at the plate by Correia (1 for 2, 2 runs, 2 walks), Tim Simplicio (2 for 3, double), and Bryan Renker (double). Carl Nicklas had a beautiful bunt single. In the field, Correia saved several errors at first base. Four ACP pitchers combined to limit the Venora offense to just 7 hits (4 infield hits).

Modern Tire beats Police Union 12-2

Modern Tire took it to the Police Union ball club handedly by hitting at least 2 hits in every inning except the 6th where they recorded only 1.  It was a team effort where 9 of the 11 MT players recorded hits.  Most notable Colby Lytle (5 for 5, 2 dbl, 5 RBI, 2 runs) and Liam Stone getting his first major league hit which allowed him to score on a Lytle 2-bagger.  The Tire batsmen also scored in every inning with the most coming in the fifth when 5 crossed the plate.

The Modern Tire defense kept the runs off the board for Police until the 4th, when Matt Langevin and Ryan Cova each smoked doubles and ended up scoring Police’s 2 runs.

Knights of Columbus 17 Police Union 4

The Knights scored in every inning to outslug Police 17-4. In the 1st, Luke Fox (2 for 4, 2 doubles, 4 RBI) doubled home Drew Hungerford and Chase Jeter, both whom walked. With the score 2-0, the Knights erupted for 6 more in the 2nd. Joe Morganthaler (2 for 3, double, RBI) started the inning with a single to left. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, Drew Hungerford (3 for 3, HR, 5 RBI) laced a single to left to score 2 runs, and Avi Ehrlich (2 for 4, 3RBI) singled to CF to score 2 more runs. Sean Macary (2 for 4, RBI) closed out the onslaught with a RBI single to RF. Police took advantage of 2 K of C miscues and line drive singles from Matt Marino and Matt Langevin to score 3 runs in the 3rd to make it 8-3. In the bottom of the 3rd, K of C scored 4 more times, on consecutive hits by Wilson, Hungerford and Fox. K of C put it out of reach in the 4th, highlighted by an RBI double from Morganthaler, and a 3 run home run by Hungerford to deep center. Michael Woods and Will Carpenter played great defensively for Police, as did Will Layden (1 for 2, double) for K of C.

Venora Electric Beats Berry Insurance 18-1

Venora's offense came out hot and put this one away early with 11 runs on 10 hits in the top of the 1st.  Berry fought hard despite having only 8 players for much of the game.  Venora's offense was led by Sean Langan (2 for 4, 2 home runs, 5 RBI's), Dan Fitzsimmons (2 for 4, 3 runs, home run, double), Ryan Smith (3 for 4, 2 runs), Josh Wolmer (2 for 2, 2 runs, double), and Karstian Lang (2 for 4).  Fitzsimmons picked up the win on the mound.  Chase Rancourt made his Major League pitching debut and pitched well in two innings.  Berry's offense was led by Noah Matalon (2 for 3, run, stole home), Nathaniel Gonzalez (2 walks), and Sam Musto (single, walk).

Threshers quiet the Rattlers

Three Threshers' pitchers combined on a 1 hitter as the Threshers knocked off the Rattlers 10-1 on Sunday. Robert Schunder went 3 dominant innings, walking only 1 hitter while striking out the other 9. Dylan Heinen followed with 2 solid innings surrendering the lone run of the game while striking out 2 batters. Drew Seidman sandwiched three strikeouts around one walk in the sixth to close out the game. On offense, the Threshers struck early as Josh Liebman (2-2, 1 run, 1 RBI) singled followed by Heinen (1-2, 2 runs) who hit a sharp single to right. The ball got away on the throw back to the infield allowing the runners to advance. A second overthrow allowed both runners to score and the Threshers were in the lead. Seidman (2-2, 2B, 3B, 2 runs, 1 RBI) followed with a double and came around to score on Jacob Newbury's (1-3, 2 RBI) RBI groundout. The Threshers were back at it in the second inning. Brian Chelli (2-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI) led off with the first of his two hits on the day. Brooks McConnell (3-3, 2 RBI) drove him in with a single. Later in the inning, Liebman had an RBI hit to make the score 5-0. Jason Hoopes came on to pitch for the Rattlers in the third and fourth innings and shut down the Threshers' bats. He was aided by two outstanding plays at third by John Taylor who ran into foul territory to catch a pop-out and then later fielded a ground ball and showed off his strong arm by gunning the runner down at first. The Rattlers got on the board themselves in the fifth. Will Cullen (1-2, 1 run) led of the inning with a hit and later scored on an RBI groundout from Robbie Barrieau (0-1, 1 RBI). The bottom of the fifth, however, saw the Threshers push across five more. A leadoff walk to Liebman led to a run on Seidman's tripple to left field. He then scored on Schunder's (1-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) solid line drive single to left. Hits by Jude Sargent (2-2) and Newbury followed and then Jack Brown (1-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) ripped a double down the left field line to plate another run. Chelli drove in another run with a hit before McConnell plated the fifth run with a line drive single to center.

Bats Beat Rivercats 12-3

Joe Hussey (2 innings, 6 K's) and Christian Pedro (3 innings , 5 K's) pitched very well for the Bats. Also, the Bats' Jackson Muskrat stonewalled the rally by the tenacious Rivercats in the sixth with two strikeouts.

Offensively, the Bats were led by Joltin Joe Hussey (2 hits, 3 RBI's), Brian Namnoum (3 hits, 3 RBI's), Patrick McGann (3 hits, 3 RBI's) and Dan Hussey (2 hits, 2 RBI's).

The Rivercats displayed great agility on defense with web gems by Connor Ferguson at shortstop and Aiden McGee at second . Also , CJ Baldini swung the bat impressively for the Rivercats .

Grasshoppers Beath Owlz 13-1

The Grasshoppers were led by the pitching of John Cashman (7 strikeouts). On the offensive side, Matthew DeLutrie, Cashman, George Andrews, Jaedan Carrero and Avery Theriault each had 2 hits. Luke Hache led the Owlz with 2 hits (2-3, double) and pitched 2 innings (5 strikeouts).

Iron Pigs 12 – Sand Gnats 2

The Iron Pigs picked up there first win of the season defeating the Sand Gnats 12-2. The Iron Pigs combined strong pitching with timely hitting to pick up the victory. The bats were led by Colum Flaherty (3 hits), Mitch Baboff(2 hits), Joshua Onyirimba (2 hits), Brandon Wolmer (2 hits), and several players with 1 hit a piece.

Iron Pig piching was strong today. Matthew Glassman started and pitched 2 scoreless innings striking out 3. Matt was followed by Zachary Berkowitz, and Josh Onyirimba, each pitching strong innings. Brandon Wolmer and Seth Ehrlich each pitched scoreless innings for the Iron Pigs.

The Sand Gnats were led by Noah Pryzbek. It needs to mentioned that Noah on 2 different occasions gave up his body to attempt diving catches at first base. Although the balls were just out of his reach his hard nosed efforts should be mentioned. Offensively the Gnats were led by Justin Albee who had a hit and 2 stolen bases and also pitched a scoreless inning

CowParade Bulls defeat VFW Post #9929 Mud Hens 16-1

For the Bulls, Will Fox, Brady Tober, Harry Stevenson, Joseph Shuey, and Matthew Barrows powered the hitting attack. While on the mound, Cooper Silver (4) and Brett Berman (3) handled the pitching duties, combining for seven strikeouts.

For the Mud Hens, Andrew Reicher had two hits, while Mason Chabot, Kyran Costigan, Cameron Gregory, Aidan Shaffer, and Drew LaCasse chipped in with singles. On the hill, Daniel Monyak recorded three strikeouts.
