WHYBL 10U Travel Team Completes Very Successful Season

Scores and write-ups provided by West Hartford Youth Baseball League

The Travel 10U Blue Thunder completed a successful season with a tournament championship win in Farmington and a loss in the semi-finals in the West Hartford Little League Tournament. They finished the summer with an impressive 19-6 record.

The Blue Thunder rolled through the Farmington Tournament with an impressive 10-0 record.

The last two games of the round robin portion of tournament included a 13-2 victory over New Hartford and a 14-0 victory over Simsbury. While the scores themselves are impressive, what stands out is that not a single hitter from West Hartford struck out in these two games.

West Hartford 13, New Hartford 2

The Blue Thunder jumped to an early 5-0 lead against New Hartford and at the end of three innings the score was 10-1 led by Dominic Niman’s grand slam home run over the right center fence in Bailey field. After that, West Hartford never looked back. Colby Lytle and Alex Dobbins contributed with two hits apiece and Casey Shane, Matt Langevin, Will Carpenter, Tim Cotter and Bryan Renker also contributed with hits. Colby Lytle worked the majority of the innings and was relieved by Matt Langevin to hold a tough New Hartford team to only 2 runs.

West Hartford 14, Simsbury 0

In a wrap up of regular tournament play, West Hartford put together back-to-back 5-run innings to take a 10-0 lead and ultimately finished the game up 14-0. Will Carpenter led the offense with 2 hits and Aidan Shea, Ben Castro, Zander Boehm, Matt Beazoglou, Alex Dobbins, Bryan Renker (triple), Josh Wolmer, Colby Lytle and Dom Niman each picked up hits. Pitchers Josh Wolmer, Will Carpenter, Alex Dobbins and Tim Cotter combined for the shutout.

Semi-Final: West Hartford 13, Burlington 2

After receiving a first-round bye in the playoffs, West Hartford entered the semi-finals to take on Burlington. At the end of the 1st West Hartford had a 5-0 lead and tacked on another 5 runs in the 3rd to have a 10-2 lead before closing the game out with a 13-2 victory. Bryan Renker and the West Hartford defense held Burlington to 2 runs over three innings while Casey Shane came on in relief. Matt Langevin, Casey Shane, and Will Carpenter contributed with two hits apiece supported by Colby Lytle, Josh Wolmer, Bryan Renker and Matt Beazoglou who each chipped in with a base hit.  

Championship: West Hartford 10, Barkhamsted 2

In the Championship, the Blue Thunder had a 2-1 lead after two innings until Barkhamsted tied the game in the top of the 4th. In the bottom half of the 4th inning, West Hartford broke the game wide open with clutch hits from Dom Niman, Will Carpenter, Tim Cotter and Zander Boehm to take a 7-2 lead after four. The Blue Thunder tacked on 3 more runs in the 5th powered by hits by Aidan Shea and Casey Shane to take a 10-2 lead into the sixth inning. Dom Niman pitched into the fourth, striking out 6 and allowing only one run while Matt Langevin came on in relief to strike out another 5 batters from Barkhamsted to secure the Championship for West Hartford.

10U Blue Thunder Advance to Semi-Finals of the West Hartford Little League Tournament.

In addition to playing and winning the Farmington Lindquist Tournament, the West Hartford 10U Blue Thunder stopped one game short of back-to-back championship games.

The Blue Thunder ended regular tournament play with back-to-back wins over East Hartford (15-11) and Simsbury (11-7).

West Hartford 15, East Hartford 11

After spotting East Hartford a four run lead after two innings, the Blue Thunder bats came alive to outscore East Hartford 10-2 to secure the 15-11 victory. Josh Wolmer (3 hits), Matt Langevin (2 hits), Tim Cotter (2 hits), Ben Castro (2 hits) and Aidan Shea (2 hits) led the offensive output supported by Casey Shane, Don Niman, Will Carpenter, Bryan Renker, Alex Dobbins and Zander Boehm who each contributed a hit.

West Hartford 11, Simsbury 7

The Blue Thunder took a 4-0 lead after one inning against a tough Simsbury team and never looked back taking an 11-7 victory into the West Hartford tournament playoffs. Matt Langevin, Dom Niman, Josh Wolmer, Will Carpenter, Bryan Renker and Alex Dobbins led the offense.

Quarterfinals: West Hartford 12, Farmington 8

In the first round of the playoffs, the score was tied 2-2 after four and then Farmington took a 6-2 lead in the top of the 5th. In the bottom half of the same inning, the Blue Thunder scored 10 runs to secure a 12-8 victory and advance to the semi-finals. Casey Shane led the offense with 2 hits supported by Matt Langevin, Dom Niman, Josh Wolmer, Will Carpenter, Alex Dobbins, Matt Beazoglou and Aidan Shea. Matt Langevin, Matt Beazoglou and Dom Niman pitched for the Blue Thunder.

Semi-Finals: Avon 14, West Hartford 9

After falling behind 6-1 after two innings, the Blue Thunder pulled within one run after three innings. In the next frame each team scored 3 runs leaving the score 9-8 in favor of Avon. Thereafter, the Blue Thunder fell short conceding the game to Avon 14-9 after six innings losing only their second game out of seventeen played in West Hartford and Farmington. Casey Shane, Dom Niman and Tim Cotter led the Thunder with multiple hits and Matt Langevin, Colby Lytle, Josh Wolmer, Bryan Renker and Aidan Shea each chipped in with a base hit.
