A Capella, Robotics, Beat Boxing All in One Package

West Hartford's Camp KO focuses on a different theme – or themes – each session, and this time it was a capella and robotics.

Campers have a chance to get creative in their chosen area of specialization, and all campers also enjoy sessions on stretching and conditioning, healthy eating, and sportsmanship.

After slightly less than two weeks of working in their specialties, the campers were ready for a command performance on the stage at Blue Back Square where they appeared in the heat of lunch hour Thursday.

Camp Director Sheri Slobin Shea said that four members of the a capella group had absolutely no previous singing experience. "They came in here with the courage to try new things," she said.

Part of the a capella experience included training with beat boxer Michael Garcia, and the robotics group worked with professionals from UTC to create "Otis the Beat Bot."

The campers seemed cool and unphased by the 90-plus degree temperatures on the stage. "They looked great despite how hot it is," Shea said.
