Featured In The Princeton Review's “Best 295 Business Schools"

The University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business has been named one of the nation's most outstanding business schools, according to the education services company, The Princeton Review (www.princetonreview.com). The company features the Barney School in the new 2014 edition of its book, The Best 295 Business Schools (Random House / Princeton Review, October 8, 2013).

According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review senior vice president/publisher, "We recommend the Barney School of Business as one of the best institutions a student could attend to earn a business school degree. We chose the schools we profile in this book based on our high regard for their academic programs and our reviews of institutional data we collect from the schools. We also solicit and greatly respect the opinions of students attending these schools that rate and report on their experiences at them on our 80-question student survey for the book."

The Princeton Review's survey asks business school students about their school's academics, student body and campus life as well as about themselves and their career plans.

"The Best 295 Business Schools: 2014 Edition" has two-page profiles of the schools with write-ups on their academics, student life and admissions. In the profile on the Barney School of Business, the Princeton Review editors describe the school as having great professors, staff that go out of their way to assist students, and a tremendous sense of community. Barney also provides great flexibility to accommodate the full-time workers seeking MBA and MSAT degrees. “For the working professional, this program is perfect. In and out of classes at convenient times leaves time to do other activities and keep a good work/school-life balance,” said one student.

Many student comments tout the strengths of the Barney faculty: “The greatest strength” of the program “is the quality and enthusiasm of the professors in the program as it relates to their disciplines.” “The faculty is amazing. They really care, and do the best to foster a great learning environment” by being “clear and straightforward in their explanations.” “Some professors are true gems,” says a student.

In addition, the Barney School offers “a wide variety of electives (communication, marketing, psychology)” and “international classes,” which are “awesome,” said another student.

The Princeton Review does not rank the business schools in the book on a single hierarchical list from 1 to 295, or name one business school best overall. Instead, the book has 11 ranking lists of the top 10 business schools in various categories. Ten lists are based entirely or partly on The Princeton Review's surveys of 20,300 students attending the 295 business schools profiled in the book. Conducted during the 2012-13, 2011-12, and 2010-11 academic years, the student surveys were completed online.
