Connecticut Artist on Display in West Hartford Center

Janet Iffland's recent paintings are currently exhibited at Center Framing & Art through Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Shoppers enjoying a walk through West Hartford Center in the waning days of summer may want to catch a glimpse of classic New England landscapes, presented through the beautiful oil and acrylic paintings of Janet Iffland.

The newest selection by the talented Connecticut native is currently being exhibited at on LaSalle Road. Iffland’s paintings depict landscapes from all over New England – from the sandy beaches to dense, tree-shaded paths.

Center Framing owner Lori Chozick, who has known Iffland for several years, calls her paintings “dynamic” works of art that incorporate a “plethora of colors."

While Iffland’s work has been previously displayed at Center Framing, this is the first time they have earned the status of center stage in the front window. Right now, Iffland is the only artist whose work is displayed out front, something rarely done by Chozick. However, Iffland’s work clearly has what it takes to command such a prominent position, and several of her pieces have already been purchased.

The exhibit is not just about selling beautiful artwork. A portion of all sales of Iffland’s paintings go to M.D. Fox Elementary School in Hartford. Chozick is a long-time supporter, and often uses these shows as fundraisers. Iffland, also active in charity work, is pleased to be helping out the Hartford school.

Iffland takes her inspiration from the surrounding areas in New England – “especially the shoreline” – which she paints both on location and by photograph. Some of the paintings in this new installment are the product of a Maine vacation.

The beauty of Iffland’s paintings is how they so accurately depict the smallest details of nature – such as how the wind tilts the umbrellas at the beach. Chozick remarked that purchasing a painting is not an instantaneous act, that people need to “think about buying [a painting]” before they make their decision. Pedestrians who come into Center Framing inquiring about the display have a habit of returning later in the day, intent on acquiring a piece for themselves.

Iffland has clearly made an impression thus far on the community. Her ability to capture nature is clearly appreciated by the public thus far, perhaps especially by those who are trying to hold onto summer memories.

Center Framing is open Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
