Flash Mob Hits Blue Back Square

Shoppers and diners surprised when music and dancing suddenly erupted in the center court area.

If you happened to be in West Hartford’s on Thursday evening, you may have witnessed something very strange. Yes – there was a flash mob.

Seemingly normal suburban shoppers and diners suddenly leaped to their feet, prompted by the sounds of Daddy Yankee’s Gasolina, and took over the center court. Moving in rhythm to the dance choreographed by Zumba teacher Lee Newton, the flash mob was the work of Step by Step – one of the teams participating in the West Hartford Relay for Life.

They used flash mob tactics to catch the attention of anyone within earshot, and hope the action will help them raise funds and call attention to the cause of cancer research.
