West Hartford To Hold the 'Mother of All Walks'

'Walk Like MADD' scheduled for May 5.

Gather your friends, family and co-workers and Walk Like MADD on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  

The 2.55 mile walk for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) begins at 10 a.m. (check in at 9:30 a.m.) at , 50 South Main Street, and winds through picturesque West Hartford Center. Walk Like MADD is the perfect event for individuals and groups who are looking for a way to engage family and friends in life-affirming community service.

Every step taken and every dollar raised, supports MADD’s initiatives in Connecticut, including the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving which calls for ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers; sobriety checkpoints and/or saturation patrols; community support; and the development and exploration of advanced technologies that will one day make a vehicle inoperable by a drunk driver.

The West Hartford Walk Like MADD will feature a Kids Zone, child ID cards by the , a MADD Marketplace, music, dancing, breakfast food by , lunch provided by the California Pizza Kitchen, , and water from .

Drunk driving is the nation’s most frequently committed violent crime. In 2009, 99 people were killed in Connecticut in drunk driving crashes. Nationally, nearly 12,000 people were killed in crashes where the driver had a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. MADD served 50,000 victims/survivors in 2010 and money raised at through Walk Like MADD helps to provide victim support services at no cost to the victim/survivors.
