West Hartford Woman Wins 4th Annual East Granby Ridge Run 5K

West Hartford's Heather Sipsma won the race, while East Granby's Jake Koteen placed second overall and first for the men.

West Hartford resident Heather Sipsma won the 4th annual East Granby Ridge Run on Saturday afternoon.

Sipsma completed the 3.1-mile course, which started and ended at , in 18:53.59, placing her first overall ahead of East Granby’s Jake Koteen, who finished second and first in the men’s division with a time of 19:08.96.

Just under 160 runners took part in the event, which is a major fundraiser for the East Granby Women’s Club. The proceeds that were raised, about $5,500, will be donated to the East Granby school district’s athletic department.

Organizer Eden Wimpfheimer said that the race was an unmitigated success.

"We were happy for the good weather; it's just a good, small-town event," Wimpfheimer said.

There weren't just grown ups who took part in the 5K. Abigayl Gautier, 9, of East Granby, won the girls 5 to 9 year old age group.

"It felt awesome [to win]," an excited Gautier said while grinning ear to ear. "I thought that a lot of people were in front of me. I didn't know. Then I felt sick to my stomach."

In addition, there was a kids’ run for younger children, a bouncy house, face painting and refreshments on sale. Check out the photo gallery and accompanying video to see some of the action.
