Hello West Hartford! Silly Science, Public Safety Committee Meeting and More...

Please allow me to introduce myself...

Good morning, West Hartford! Today is Monday, July 29, 2013. There are 155 days left in the year.

Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste... Wait. Sorry. That’s the Rolling Stones’ Sympathy for the Devil.

Anyhoo, I’m the new local editor of the West Hartford Patch. Before doing so, I’d be remiss in not recognizing Ronni Newton and Susan Schoenberger, two of the very best that Patch has had to offer. I’m not either of those two, but I hope to live up to the legacy that they have established at the West Hartford Patch.

As a way of introducing myself, listed below are five things about me.

1. I’m a native of Connecticut, having grown up in Stamford before moving to the Greater Hartford area in 1999 to practice law.

2. After growing tired of the prestige and money from being a lawyer, I decided to become a journalist 12 years ago. I most recently served as the local editor of the South Windsor Patch and The Granbys (now re-named Granby-East Granby) Patch.

3. I’m a proud graduate of Syracuse University, from which I earned degrees in political science and newspaper journalism. I graduated from the Hofstra University School of Law in 1997.

4. This may be Red Sox Nation, but I am a New York Yankees fan through and through (feel free to fling insults, but not rotten tomatoes, please).

5. I’ve had quite a year. In addition to launching the South Windsor Patch, I got married and my wife and I had a baby (that's him in the photo) in April. But easily the biggest thing to happen is my having watched the movie “Sharknado” on Syfy. So good for so many reasons.

Here are five things going on in the area this week.

Children’s Community Yoga at the West Hartford Main Library Meeting Room at 2 p.m. on July 29.

Silly Science at the West Hartford Main Library at 12:30 p.m. on July 30.

The Committee to Review Operations of the Registrars of Voters will meet on Wednesday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m.

CT Screenwriters have their monthly meeting at the West Hartford Public Library at 7 p.m.

The Public Safety Committee will meet on Aug. 1 at 8 a.m. at Town Hall in Room 312. Among the discussion items is the possible purchase of a new police vehicle and fire equipment.
