6th Grade Boys Advance to League Semi-Finals

The West Hartford 6th Grade travel basketball team has had an exciting run the past few weeks, capping it off last weekend with a quarter final win over South Windsor to advance to the semifinals of its league tournament. The Cagers will face Bristol in the semi-finals this coming Friday, March 7, 6:00 PM at Hall High School.

WH 48, South Windsor 34. February 16, 2013. Jaden Dimauro (12 PTS, 6 REB) knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first half to pace West Hartford in the first half. Perhaps the play of the game came at the buzzer to close the first half when Brian Puleo came flying from out of the screen to block a three point shot by South Windsor. The play provided an much needed emotional lift to West Hartford as they headed into halftime. Will Fox (10 PTS), Jack Krugman (8 PTS, 7 REB) and George Andrews (4 PTS) gave solid efforts in extending the Cagers winning streak to 12 games.

WH 37, Windsor 51. February 22, 2014. Windsor jumped out to a 21-4 first quarter lead from which the Cagers could not recover. The loss ended their winning streak at 12 games.

 WH 56, Colchester 20. Led by 16 points from Ethan Pinkes, West Hartford defeated Colchester 56-20 at King Philip Middle School. This was the final game in league play, where the Cagers finished in second place with a 13-3 record.

#2 WH 67 over #7 South Windsor 48 – Round 1 of League Tournament. West Hartford opened its league tournament with a 67-48 victory over South Windsor.  It was  back and forth game the entire first half, with West Hartford holding a 1 point lead going into the halftime. Gabe Salomons (18 PTS, 8 REB) carried the Cagers on both ends of the court, and his 18 points were a season high for a West Hartford player. Brian Puleo led West Harford in effort plays against the aggressive and physical South Windsor team.

WH 28, Oxford 14  - 1st Round of Hoopfest. West Hartford traveled to Ansonia, Connecticut to participate in Hoopfest, a regional basketball tournament hosted by the Devon Rotary Knights of Milford. The tournament features over 200 boys and girls teams throughout Connecticut and 30 teams in the 6th Grade Boys division.

In an ugly, defensive battle, West Hartford won its first round game 28-14 over Oxford.

3/2 Cardinal Shehan Center 58  over WH 49  – 2nd Round of Hoopfest

West Hartford met its match in the second round of Hoopfest when it faced Cardinal Shehan Center of Bridgeport, CT, losing 58-49. It was a fast paced game with both teams in full court press defense from the opening tip. Ethan Pinkes led the Cagers with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

West Hartford plays the winner of East Haven and Hamden Regional on Sunday, March 9 in the next round of Hoopfest.
