The WH Cagers continued their winning streak, going 3-0 in pool play to advance to the championship of the Southington Invitational Basketball Tournament held over Thanksgiving weekend. Their 7 game streak ended with a valiant loss to defending Cheshire in the tournament championship.
WH 44, Avon 20
The Cagers opened the tournament with a 44-20 victory over Avon. Led by point guard Jack Tousignant with 9 points, 4 assists and 3 steals and on the boards by Brian Puleo (5 REB) and James Travers (5 REB), West Hartford had big contributions from Gabe Salomons (8 PTS, 3 STL, 2 REB, 2 AST) and Jaden DiMauro (6 PTS).
WH 41, Newington 36
West Hartford rolled to victory over rival Newington before an overly spirited crowd at Southington High School. Will Fox scored 8 of his 10 points down the stretch to help fight off a late game charge by Newington. Gabe Salomons added 10 points, to go along with 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 block and a steal and Brian Puleo scored 6 points and pulled down 3 rebounds. As he does in all of the team's close games, George Andrews (5 AST, no turnovers) controlled the pace at point guard for West Hartford.
WH 41, Colchester 13
Ethan Lavalley (9 PTS, 1 BLK, 1 STL) and Jack Krugman (10 PTS, 6 REB) led the way as the Cagers coasted to victory over Colchester 41-13. James Travers (4 PTS, 7 REB (1 STL) once again led the defensive and rebounding effort, playing a great game on both ends of the court. Jaden DiMauro added 6 points, 5 rebounds, along with 1 block and a steal
Cheshire 55, WH 42
The invitational started with 8 teams on Friday afternoon and concluded Sunday morning with a matchup of undefeated Chesire and 3-0 West Hartford. The Cagers fought to the finish and made several late runs, but in the end could not keep Chesire's six-footer, Aiden Godfrey, off the boards and out of the scoring column. The undaunted Jack Krugman (15 PTS, 5 REB, 1 STL) and slashing Tyler Marino (8 PTS, 6 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL) carried the Cagers throughout.
The Cagers begin their regular season December 7 and 8 on the road against Bristol and at home against Wolcott.
