The 6th Grade boys travel basketball team played four exciting games the past two weekends, winning 2 and losing 2 in games against Hartford, Bloomfield, Guilford and Hamden.

Cagers 57, Hartford 35. December 21, 2013. Led by the aggressive play of Jack Tousignant (15 Pts, 3 Ast) and Ethan Pinkes (8 Pts, 8 Reb), West Hartford defeated Hartford 57-35. Playing before a spirited home crowd at King Philip Middle School, the Cagers had its most balanced scoring attack of the season with solid contributions from Gabe Salomons (6 Pts, 4 Reb, 3 Ast), Jack Krugman (6 Pts, 11 Reb, 4 Ast), Tyler Marino (Pts, 3 Reb), Brian Puleo (4 Pts) and Dan Hussey (3 Pts, 2 Ast).

Bloomfield 51, West Hartford 50. December 22, 2013. Before a capacity crowd at the Bloomfield Community Center the Cagers suffered their first loss in league play, 51-50. Will Fox (14 Pts) and Jack Krugman (11 pts, 12 Reb) led the WH scoring attack in a back and forth game that came down to a last second shot which fell just short.

Ethan Pinkes was added to the starting line up just minutes before tip-off and rewarded his team with solid play on both ends of the floor, finishing with 7 points, 13 rebounds and a block. James Travers (2 Pts, 6 Reb, 2 Stl, 2 Ast) contributed with his steady play on both ends of the court, while Gabe Salomons grabbed 13 rebounds despite some physical limitations heading into the game.

Cagers 44, Guilford 31. December 27, 2013. On a small, dusty rubber court at the Wallingford Rec Center, point guards George Andrews and Jack Tousignant (12 Pts) navigated their way around the Guilford defense and through the blinding, late afternoon sunlight to lead West Hartford to victory. Gabe Salomons (6 Pts) and Jaden Dimauro (4 Pts) added to the WH effort.

Hamden 41, West Hartford 38. December 28, 2013. Hamden opened the game with a full-court press, jumping out to a 21-6 lead by midway through the first half. Down 26-11 at the half, the Cagers matched their opponent with a full court press of its own, holding Hamden to 14 second half points. With 5 minutes remaining in the game and still down by 16 points, West Hartford went on a scoring spree behind the three point shooting of George Andrews (5 Pts) Jaden DiMauro (8 Pts) and Will Fox (9 Pts) and a couple of slashing drives by Tyler Marino (6 Pts). The Cagers' run was just a little too late, as Hamden secured possession of the ball as time ran out.
