Community Update

Summer (ok Spring?) weather update Sunday, December 22nd, 2013.

Why is it so warm (It must be global warming!!!!)?  No, it is not global warming, it has to do with the position a cold front to our west and the position of a warm front just to our north.    The last two storms we had featured warm air to our south.  Washington DC for example was 45 degrees and rainy while we were 14 degrees and snow bound.  What is happening here is a similar front has actually made it through our area (it passed through over night from the south and the temps actually climbed while most of us slept).   You can see it on the map as the red and blue line that stretched more or less west to east right along the Mass border.  The temps north of that line are virtually half of what they are immediately south of it.  Here in West Hartford, we will cling more or less to 60 degrees today (unless the sun breaks through, then all bets are off and we could take a run at 70..unlikely though).  Albany is sitting at 32 degrees at the time of my writing this.  Enjoy the day as best as you can.  We should be relatively dry this morning with some showers this afternoon.  Temps will hold steady and then drop slightly overnight. Tomorrow afternoon will herald the arrival of much cooler air and more familiar temps that will hold on through the Christmas holiday.  Chances of a white Christmas:  I have to break the bad news now and say zero.
