A roller coaster week:
Today features mild temperatures and lots of rain with the bulk of the rain falling from about 9:00AM until 2:00PM. There will be lots of fog as the snow melts and evaporates and with the air already quite saturated, it literally forms ground clouds (fog) making visibility poor at times.
My other worry is that once the cold front pushes through (mid to late afternoon), temps will fall rapidly and any standing water will become ice overnight. Be prepared if you are driving anywhere after about 8:00 tonight that there will be patches of ice on the roads.
We head back into the deep freeze as this last shot of arctic air envelops the area (it has been vastly overhyped by other weather outlets) and tomorrow will be mid teens for a high. The good news if after that, the temps will moderate quickly and a genuine January thaw will arrive later Friday into Saturday with several days of temps above freezing.
I'm keeping an eye on a small storm for this Friday and will comment here if it looks like it is going to turn into something of concern. I head out of town for a 12 day business trip (its a secret meeting of all wanna-be meteorologists at an undisclosed bunker out west near Area 51) and will see you when I'm back on the 22nd.
