West Hartford Youth Baseball League Results May 14th - May 16th

Exchange Club 16 Connors Insurance 1
On a cold night at Beachland Exchange’s bats were still humming from mid-week. Exchange got on the board quickly with contributions from Patrick Mahon 3-4 with 3 runs; Dan Hussey 1-2, Joe Hussey 1-2; Colby Lytle 4-4 with four runs, Matt Beazoglou 3-4 with a Home Run. Matt also pitched two innings facing only eight batters and struck out two. Matt got defensive help from Aidan Shea who had three assistants and a put out in the first inning alone. Neil Gustafson also played well in the outfield and third base.
Connors was led by Timmy Andrews, 1-1 with a BB, Single and a run scored. Adam Glassman went 1-1 with a walk. Jonathon Morrey played well from Connors.

Halls Market 16 Knights of Columbus 4
Halls defeated KofC 16-4 behind 9 hits and disciplined plate appearances for 7 walks.  In what started out as a tight contest 1-1 after 2 innings, Halls broke it open with 4 runs in the 3rd and 11 runs in the 4th.  Matthew Shea was the consummate lead off hitter reaching base 3 out of 4 times and scoring 3 runs.
Josh Ort pitched a gem keeping the powerful KofC hitters in check.

Keating 9 Blue Back Dental 8

Keating came from behind to beat a strong Blue Back Dental team 9-8 on Wednesday evening. Keating got on the board quickly when a single by Alex Dobbins was followed by back-to-back home runs from Tim Cotter and Hugh Wells, giving Keating a 3-0 lead. BBD responded in the bottom half of the inning on aggressive baserunning from Matt Lazor and Jay Falvey, scoring twice to tighten the score at 3-2. Keating was able to push across 3 more runs in the 2nd inning behind the hitting of Harry Stevenson, Sean Hurley and Cotter. The Blue Back Dental offense really got going in the third, taking a 7-6 lead behind home runs from Max Ryan and "Texas" Joe Shuey. Down by 2 in the top of the 6th, Keating was able to string together some timely hitting and smart baserunning to take a one-run lead going into the last half inning. Closer Sean Hurley was able to retire the side in order to preserve the win.
Offensive stars for BBD were Ryan and Shuey, each with home runs. The Keating offense was lead by Stevenson (2 for 3), Hurley (2 for 3), Cotter (3 for 4), and Wells (3 for 4).Pitching:

Cornelius 10 A.C. Petersen Farms Restaurant 5

Cornelius capitalized on another strong outing turned in by Ivan Ribeiro who pitched 5 innings of shutout baseball striking out 11. The Cornelius offense managed to score 10 runs on just six hits led by Will Hutensky (2 for 2, 2 2Bs, 2BB 1 RBI), Bryant Caron (1-3, 2B, 3 RBI), Devin Mahoney (1-2, 2BB) Cole Johnson (1-2) and Ribeiro (1-3). Cornelius had some fine defensive play as well including an 8-6-5 put-out as Sean James through a bullet from the base of the centerfield fence to relay Hutensky who fired to Andrew Ferrucci at third to tag Will Carpenter (1-2) trying to stretch a long double into a triple in the 4th inning.
ACP mounted a valiant comeback attempt in the top of the 6th scoring five runs on four hits including Spencer Bavaro (2-3), Peter Simplicio (1-2), Carl Nicklas (1-2, 2 RBI) and Sam Kursman (1-3) but ultimately fell short as Johnson came in to shut down the charge.

Berry Insurance 14 Mr. Trophy 7

Berry defeated Mr. Trophy 14-7.  Berry's bats were on fire as they plated runs in all but one inning.  Berry's offense was led by Griffin VanRye (2-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI) as he hit 2 towering HRs deep to left field.  Berry's also received strong contribution from David Regan (3-3, 1B, 2 doubles), Noah Matalon (2-4, 1B, 2B, RBI), Brian Namnoum (2-4, 1B, 2B, 2 RBIs), Sam Musto (2-4, 1B, 2B, 2 RBIs) and Andrew Wendorff (2-5, 1B, HR, 3 RBIs) as he hit his first HR of the season over the left field fence.
Berry defensively played well as they turned their first double play of the season (1-6-3).  Regan to Wendorff to Matalon.
 
Trophy never gave up as they plated 4 of their 7 runs in 5th inning.  Trophy received great offensive contribution from Casey Shane (4-4, 1B, 2 doubles, HR, RBI) and Jack McGovern (2-3, 1B, 2B, 2 RBIs).

Halls Market 2 A.C. Petersen Farms Restaurant 0

In pitchers dual Halls defeats a tough ACP team 2-0 behind excellent pitching from Nick Gaglioti, Mack Phillips, Matt Langevin and great defense by CJ Baldini and Josh Ort behind the plate.  The 3 Halls pitchers combined for a 4 hitter and 12 strikeouts.  Halls offense was lead by Nick Gaglioti (3-3, 2 runs), Matt Langevin (1-2, 3B), Tommy Costello (1-2, 3B) and Tommy Miller (1-2).

Venora Electric 7 Blue Back Dental 6
Venora Electric built an early lead and then hung on late for the 7-6 win against a determined Blue Back Dental team.  Dan Fitzsimmons was the star on the mound for Venora with 4 shutout innings and 9 K's.  Venora scored 3 with two outs in the 1st on doubles by Gabe Salomons and Chase Rancourt and a single from Josh Wolmer.  They added two more in the 2nd on a leadoff walk to Aidan Foley and back-to-back singles from Chase Maxwell and Fitzsimmons.  Tanner Bruttomesso then held them scoreless in the 3rd before they tacked on two more in the 4th led by a single from Maxwell, hit by pitch to Fitzsimmons, and a 2 RBI double from Salomons.  Trailing 7-0, BBD did not give up getting on the board in the 5th with a double from John Cashman, who advanced to 3B on a passed ball, and went home on a Reilly Cabral groundout.  Naji Middleton pitched a scoreless 5th for BBD to setup the dramatic 6th inning rally.  In the inning, BBD scored 5 times and left the tying run at 3B.  BBD was led by a triple from Max Ryan, single from Justin Surowiec, and a RBI double from Cashman.  Rancourt came on to get the last out for Venora, making a great play on a slow roller in front of the plate to just get Cabral sprinting to 1B.
 
The Venora offense was led by Maxwell (2 for 3, 2 runs), Fitzsimmons (1 for 2, run), Salomons (2 for 2, 2 doubles, run, 2 RBI's), and Rancourt (3 for 3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI's).  Aidan Foley scored his first run of the year.  Karstian Lang made his pitching debut and pitched well.  The BBD offense was led by Jay Falvey (single), Ryan (triple, run), Surowiec (single, run), Bruttomesso (2 for 3, run), Middleton (single), and Cashman (2  for 2, 2 doubles).  Bruttomesso and Middleton pitched well.
