Halls Market 15 Talcott Transmissions 4

In a battle between the remaining 2 unbeaten teams, Halls defeated Talcott 15-4.  Both teams were ready and geared up for a great game.  It started in the top of the 1st when Dominic Niman (2-2 2B,1Run) scorched a frozen line drive double off the center field fence.  Halls pitching by Josh Ort was able to retire the next three batters stranding Niman at 3rd.Halls got on the scoreboard first in the top of the 2nd inning with a with a one out triple by Mack Phillips (1-3, 3B) who later scored on an RBI by Tommy Costello (2-4, 2RBIs).  Halls tacked on 4 more runs in the top of the 3rd when Matthew Shea (1-3) lead off with a walk, followed by another walk to Nick Gaglioti (3 walks, 1 intentional walk, 3 runs), follow with a single by Matt Langevin (2-4,2RBIs and 2Runs), capped off by a booming 3 run Home Run by Mike Baldini ( 1-3, HR, 3RBIs, 3Runs) his 3rd of the season.  Halls never looked back scoring 8 runs in the 4th with nifty baserunning compounded by a few throwing miscues.Talcott was lead by Dominic Niman(2-2, 2B, 1 run) and Connor Mckeown (1-2, 2 runs)

Blue Back Dental 18 Mr. Trophy 4

Blue Back Dental defeated Mr. Trophy on Tuesday, May 7th by a score of 18 to 4.  Naji Middleton pitched four innings, allowing only 4 runs on two hits while striking out 4.  Tanner Bruttomesso closed the game with one inning of work.  Blue Back Dental’s offense had numerous contributions, starting with Justin Surowiec 3 for 5 (with a double); Jay Falvey 2 for 3 (with a HOMERUN); Max Ryan 2 for 3 (with a Triple); Tanner Bruttomesso 2 for 3 (with a double); Michael Costello 2 for 3; and Joseph Shuey 1 for 2 (with a double). 
Mr. Trophy offense was lead by Jonathan Perez who went 2 for 3 (with a HOMERUN)

Friday, May 10th

Berry Insurance 7 AC Petersen Farms Restaurant 6

It what was a back and forth game Berry beat ACP 7-6.   Berry's offense was led by David Regan (2-2, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs), Ned Blanchard (1-2), Griffin VanRye (1-2), Noah Matalon (1-4, Double), Nathan Gonzalez (1-2, RBI), Sam Musto (1-2, Double) and Robbie Barrieau (1-2, run).  ACP's offense was led by Elias Heinen (3-4, 2 triples, single), Wil Carpenter (1-2, 2B, RBI), Bryan Renker (1-2, RBI), Spencer Bavaro (2-3, RBI) and Sam Kursman (1-2)Let's fast worked to the 6th inning.  With Berry leading 6-4 ACP wasn't going down without a fight.  Carl Nicklas was able to draw a walk and later came around to score when Elias Heinen hit his second triple of the game to right field.  ACP later tied the game on a pass ball.  With the game tied in the bottom of the 6th inning Sam Musto led off with a double deep to center field.  However, Sam was caught trying to steal third on what was a close call.  Two outs and Robbie Barrieau is up to bat and delivers a this first base hit of the season to center field.  Noah Matalon is up to bat and quickly gets in the hole.  With two outs, two strikes and run on first Noah Matalon hits a screamer to right field and the right field missed it.  Robbie Barrieau comes all the way from first base to give Berry the go head run and the win.  GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!

Blue Back Dental 4 Connors Insurance 1

Blue Back Dental beat Connors Insurance by a score of 4 to 1 on Friday, May 10th.  Blue Back Dental used three pitchers to hold back Connors.  Tanner Bruttomesso pitched two innings of no hit baseball with 2 strike outs.  Matt Lazor pitched the next two innings allowing one run off two hits while striking out 2.  Max Ryan came in to close the game allowing no runs and only one hit.  Blue Back Dental’s offense was powered by Joseph Shuey who went 2 for 2; Michael Costello who went 2 for 3 (with a double); Matt Lazor who went 2 for 4 (with two doubles); Max Ryan who went 1 for 2,; and Justin Surowiec  who went 1 for 3 (double).
Connors Insurance had outstanding pitching by Adam Glassman for four inning.  Kyran Costigan provided Connors’s their offense punch by going 2 for 2.Exchange Club 10 Venora Electric 5

Knights of Columbus 7 Keating Insurance 5

On a beautiful Friday night at Wolcott Park, Knights of Columbus beat Keating Insurance 7-5 in a well-played game on both sides.
The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the second when Andrew Mitchell, after reaching first on a hit-by-pitch and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Will Fox, came around to score. K of C added 3 more in the third inning. Noah Theriault started things off with a sharp single down the third base line. He scored on Will Layden's RBI single. Two batters later Luke Fox hit his first home run of the season, giving the Knights a 4-0 lead.
Keating came right back in the home half of the third. Jack Ledwith was hit by a pitch and later scored on Jacob Newbury's RBI ground out. Franklin Robinson followed with a single. Andrew Skwiot was then hit by a pitch and Sean Hurley drew a bases-loaded walk to get Keating right back in the game. Alex Dobbins reached base and drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Tim Cotter singled to drive in Dobbins, tying the game at four.
In the top of the fifth. K of C created a little two-out magic. Luke Fox and Sean Macary hit back-to-back singles.  Mitchell followed with a double to the center field wall, bringing in both runners. Each team added a run in the 6th making the final score 7-5, Knights of Columbus. Will Fox started with two strong innings on the mound for the Knights and Luke Fox closed with a couple strong innings for the save.

Saturday, May 11th

Cornelius 10 Talcott Transmissions 0

The Cornelius offense was firing on all cylinders led by an Andrew Ferrucci grand slam in the 2nd inning (2-4, 1 hr) and multiple hit games from Sean James (3-4), Ivan Riberio (2-4), Max Leyland (2-3, 1 2b, 1 3b), Tom Dowd (3-4) and an RBI single from Desmond Nigol. Ribeiro (5 ip, 8 K) pitched 5 almost perfect innings. Will Hutensky completed the staff no-hitter. Strong defensive plays by Noah Pryzbek, Bryant Caron and Hutensky helped the cause.Talcott battled the entire game including strong catching from catcher Nathan White that included an athletic catch of a foul pop. Ben Castro (2 ip, 2 k) held Cornelius to just 1 run over the final two innings. Pitching: Cornelius - Ribeiro (5IP) Hutensky (1IP)

Venora Electric 9 Keating Insurance 1

Strong pitching and the long ball helped Venora Electric beat a strong Keating team 9-1 in a Saturday morning makeup game at Beachland Park.  Keating started hot by loading the bases against Venora ace Dan Fitzsimmons, but Fitzsimmons got back-to-back strikeouts to strand the runners.  Venora then took command in the bottom of the 1st as Chase Maxwell reached on an error, Fitzsimmons hit a two run homer, Josh Wolmer singled, and Gabe Salomons launched his first ever home run for a 4-0 lead.  Venora added a run in the 3rd on a single from Chase Rancourt and RBI double from Liam Langan.  Keating cut the score to 5-1 with a Tim Cotter double, Jack Ledwith single, and Jack Tousignant RBI groundout.  Venora put the game out of reach in the 4th with solo home runs from Fitzsimmons and Langan's first ever home run for an 8-1 lead.Venora's offense tallied 11 hits with no strikeouts and was led by Fitzsimmons (3 for 4, 2 home runs, 2 runs, 4 RBI's), Salomons (2 for 3, home run, 2 runs, 2 RBI's), and Langan (2 for 3, home run, double, 2 RBI's).  Fitzsimmons (2 IP, 4 K's), Rancourt (2 IP, 3 K's), and Langan (2 IP, 2 K's) combined to limit the potent Keating offense to 5 hits and 2 walks.  Wolmer played great behind the plate.Keating's offense was led by Cotter (2 for 2, double, run), Alex Dobbins (2 for 3), and Sean Hurley (1 for 3).  Cotter, Dobbins, and Franklin Robinson split the pitching duties. Cotter played great at catcher.  Sean Hurley made several great plays at 2B and Jacob Newbury made several nice catches in right field.

Sunday, May 12th 

Knights of Columbus 5 Blue Back Dental 4

Knights of Columbus pushed it's record to 5-1 on the season with a 5-4 win over Blue Back Dental on Mother's Day. It was no easy task as a scrappy Blue Back Dental team gave them all they could handle.
The Knights scored three times in the top of the first inning. Will Layden led off with a single and two batters later Luke Fox reached on an error. Both runners scored after a hard-hit single to center by Sean Macary. Andrew Mitchell's second home run of the season staked the Knights to a 3-0 lead.
Will Fox was solid again in the starting pitcher role. He faced the minimum six batters in two innings, striking out two and not allowing a hit. He got more run support from Joe Morganthaler who hit a towering pond-shot to left field in the second. Mitchell doubled in Sean Macary in the third and K of C held a 5-0 lead.
There was no quit in the BBD bunch as they clawed back with 4 runs of their own in the fourth inning. Jay Falvey got things started with a walk and would later score on a wild pitch. Tanner Bruttomesso doubled and scored. Justin Surowiec reached first on a dropped third strike. John Cashman also walked and scored in the inning. After four innings the K of C lead was cut to 5-4.
Knights' closer Luke Fox made that one run lead hold up pitching two perfect innings to end the game. Fox struck out five of the six BBD batters he faced.
Matt Lazor pitched four solid innings in relief for BBD, while his teammate Justin Surowiec made catch after catch in center field, to keep K of C in check the second half of the game.

Venora Electric 12 Cornelius 11

In a slugfest, Venora withstood a furious 6th inning rally by Cornelius for a 12-11 win.  The Venora bats were hot early scoring 9 runs in the first three innings for a 9-4 lead.  Cornelius scored in every inning and never quit, rallying from 12-7 to 12-10 in the 5th.  Sean James held Venora scoreless in the top of the 6th which setup the dramatic bottom of the inning.  James led off with a single, Noah Pryzbek walked, Devin Mahoney flew out to right, Will Hutensky grounded into a fielder's choice and reached on an error to load the bases.  Cole Johnson then grounded out to the pitcher to cut the score to 12-11 and put the tying and go-ahead runs on 2nd and 3rd.  Liam Langan buckled down and struck out Andrew Ferrucci on a beautiful changeup to end the game.Venora's offense was led by Brandon Wolmer who finished a single short of the cycle with a triple in the 1st, a double in the 3rd, and his first career home run in the 4th (3 for 4, 2 runs, 3 RBI's).  Chase Maxwell (2 for 3, 2 runs, double), Dan Fitzsimmons (3 for 3, triple, 2 runs, RBI), Gabe Salomons (3 for 4, 3 runs, triple, 2 RBI's), Karstian Lang (2 for 2, double, 2 BB's), and Cohl D'Addabbo (double, run) also hit well.  Fitzsimmons (2 IP, 4 K's), Chase Rancourt, and Langan split the pitching.  Salomons made several nice catches in centerfield.Cornelius's offense was led by Will Hutensky (2 for 3, 2 BB's, 3 runs), Cole Johnson (triple, 3 RBI's), Ivan Ribeiro (triple, 3 runs), Bryant Caron (double, triple, 3 RBI's), James (2 for 2, double, run), and Leo Mulready (1 for 1, walk, run).  Hutensky, Johnson, Ferrucci, and James all pitched.  Pryzbek played well in right field, Ribeiro was strong at 3B and Ferrucci did a great job at catcher.Pitching: Venora  - Fitzsimmons (2 IP), Rancourt (2 IP), Langan (2 IP).

Berry Insurance 5 Talcott Transmissions 1

In what turned at to be a great Mother's Day game Berry defeated Talcott 5-1.  Berry pitching was dominant as they allowed 1 run on two hits. Talcott led 1-0 in the top of the 4th as Berry's bats finally awaken as Griffin VanRye (1-3, Run) singled to start the inning.  He later came around to score on an infield single by Andrew Wendorff (1-2, RBI, Run).  Andrew then scored on a WP to give Berry a 2-1 lead.  With 2 outs and 2 strikeout on him, Nathan Gonzalez (2-3, 2B, HR, RBI) hit his first HR of the season deep to centerfield giving Berry a 3-1 lead after 4 innings.  Berry added another in the 5th and one in the 6th.Berry's also received offense contribution from Noah Matalon (2-3, 1B, 3B), Ned Blanchard (2-3, 1B, 2B), Sam Musto (1-2) and Brain Namnoum (1-2).Talcott was led defensively by Nathan White behind the plate, and Ryan Farley in centerfield.

The rain held off long enough Saturday afternoon for the Beachland Tavern Bandits to squeeze-in an 8-2 win over Joey's Pizza Pie in WHYBL Minor League action at Wolcott Park.
Once again, the Bandits were anchored by solid pitching. Alex Jakubowski, Aidan Bradley and Owen McGoldrick shared duties on the mound, combining for a whopping 16 strikeouts and only allowing one hit. Veteran catcher Scott LaBranch called a complete game behind the plate, capped by a perfect throw in the bottom of the sixth to snag Joey's Finn McHugh stealing second base.
At the plate, the Bandits were lead by Jakubowski who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Bradley drove in the Bandits' first run with a sacrifice fly to second base, while both Braden Flowers and Ryan Murphy also collected RBIs on a pair of infield putouts. With two outs in the second inning, Camden Hebert lined a single off Joey's Mitchell Baboff to drive-in Garrett Brown from third.
Joey's pitchers fanned 11 Bandits and were aided by a slew of stellar plays in the infield. Elliott Greenblatt notched the lone hit and RBI for Joey's, while McHugh reached base in all three at-bats.

The Beachland Tavern Bandits extended their winning streak to five with a hard-fought Mother's Day win over Dick's Sporting Goods at Eisenhower Park.
Dick's starter Jack Brown held the Bandits scoreless through the first three innings, backed by tremendous defensive play from First Baseman Matt Barrows and Shortstop Drew Seidman. Barrows walked and scored in the bottom of the second inning to give Dick's a 1-0 lead. But the Bandits' bats woke-up in the top of the fourth. With two outs and bases empty, Owen McGoldrick, Aidan Bradley and Ryan Murphy all singled, Alex Jakubowski doubled, and then Scott LaBranch and Jacob Caron singled to net the Bandits the maximum five runs.
On the field, Caron, Braden Flowers, Bradley and Garrett Brown all snagged fly balls while McGoldrick made four put-outs at first base. LaBranch caught all six innings behind the plate, making a pair of key put-outs that ultimately decided the game. Bandits pitchers Jakubowski, Bradley and Murphy combined to strikeout eight.
Dick's was lead at the plate by Brown (2 for 3, BB), Seidman (2 for 4) and Aric Googe-Rochester.

Harry’s Pizza 4 Effie’s Place 3

In a thrilling extra inning pitcher's duel, Evan Ittleson singled home Luke Struthers in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Harry's Pizza a walk-off 4-3 win over Effie's.  The pitching was the story in this one as two of the Minor League's best pitchers dominated the first half of the game.  Effie's Christian Pedro hurled three innings with 8 K's, allowing no hits, and just two runs on walks and passed balls.  Harry's Eli Salomons was just a little better with 9 K's in his three innings, allowing no hits, and just one run. The relievers were just as dominating as Effie's Jackson Muskrat pitched 3 innings with 8 K's, allowing just one hit, one run, and two walks.  Jack Kennedy also pitched well for Harry's with 5 K's in 3 innings. Harry's led the whole way until the top of the 6th when Effie's mounted a late rally with two outs.  Christian McCall walked, Taylon Miller singled, Alexus Laureta walked, Brody McCarthy singled, and Jackson Muskrat singled to score two runs and tie the score 3-3.  Kennedy then got Pedro to pop up to short to end the Effie's rally.  Effie's thwarted a 6th inning rally by Harry's when Muskrat made a great play at the plate blocking Ben Cohen from scoring on a passed ball. In extra innings, Charlie Kristofak pitched a scoreless inning helped by a Salomons laser to Kennedy at 2B to throw out an Effie's runner.  That set up the dramatic 7th.  Struthers singled and reached 3B on two passed balls.  Ittleson then hit a hard grounder to Brandon Barnett who alertly threw the ball to his brother Michael Barnett at home, but Struthers slid in safely for the exciting win. Pedro was the hitting star of the game with a single and triple.  Miller and Muskrat also had nice hits.  For Harry's Cohen had a nice hit.  Michael Barnett and Salomons both caught well.

Joey’s Pizza Pie 7 Jakes Wayback Burgers 6

On a beautiful Mother's Day afternoon, the Joey's Pizza Pie Knights edged the Jake's Wayback Burgers Hot Rods by a score of 7-6 in an exciting inter-league matchup.  After Seth Ehrlich struck out the side in the top of the first, the Knights' bats woke up from a two-game funk in the bottom half of the inning.  Finn McHugh led of the game with a single, and the bases were loaded by a walk and a hit batter.  Elliott Greenblatt drove in the first run with a single.  Sam Waterman had two RBI with a single of his own.    The inning ended with the Knights up 4-0.  After a quick second inning, Ehrlich came up in the bottom of the third with two outs.  He hit a shot to deep center, over the heads of the outfielders and was able to run around the bases for an inside the park home run.After a quiet fourth inning, the Hot Rods began to mount their comeback.  Jack Correia led off the inning with a double.  The bases were then loaded with a walk followed with a hit batter.  Correia came around to score on a stolen base.  Eric Labrie plated the other two runners with a double of his own, and cut the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the inning, the Hot Rods pitching held the line, to set up a thrilling final frame.After a strikeout to the first batter, the next three Hot Rods reached base with back to back walks and a single.  Dylan Jackson was able to steal home, to cut the lead to 5-4.  After another strikeout, Landon Traverse cleared the bases with triple to give the Hot Rods 6-5 lead.  Bobby Lachance was able to strikeout the final batter of the inning, stranding Traverse at third.Adam Morhardt led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk.  He was advanced to second when Finn McHugh hit into a fielder's choice, and then stole third.  Ehrlich was then able to force a full count walk, and quickly stole second base.  Lachance came to the plate and drove in the tying and winning runs with a walk off double.
