West Hartford Youth Baseball League Major League All-Star game

TD Bank All-Star Game Ends in Thrilling Fashion as NL All-Stars Beat AL All-Stars 10-9!

Nathan Gonzalez singled and scored in the bottom of the 8th and Griffin Van Rye pitched a scoreless 9th inning as the NL All-Stars broke a two game losing streak in this late night thriller under the lights at Wolcott Park. Fans of the long ball got their money's worth in this one as the game featured six home runs: 4 by the NL and 2 by the AL. Michael Costello got the action started in the top of the 1st with a solo blast to left field. Will Layden answered in the bottom of the 1st with his own solo home run to left field. Layden's teammate Joe Morganthaler started the 2nd inning with another home run to left field. Jay Falvey then delivered a big blow for the AL in the 3rd with a three run home run to centerfield to give the AL a 6-3 lead. Tim Cotter and Nathan Gonzalez added solo home runs in the 5th and 6th innings as the NL rallied from a 7-4 deficit to take a brief 8-7 lead, fell behind 9-8, and then tied the game 9-9 on Gonzalez's blast. Cotter also got a key out in the 7th when he came in with two outs and the bases loaded to strike out AL power hitter Ryan Farley. Hitting, pitching, and defense was abundant in this game as all 32 players played a role in the final outcome.

The NL offense was led by Gonzalez (3 for 3, 3 runs, home run, RBI), Cotter (2 for 2, run, 2 RBI's, home run), Morganthaler (2 for 2, 2 runs, RBI), Peter Simplicio (1 for 2, run, RBI) and Jack Tousignant (3 for 3, RBI). The AL offense was led by Falvey (2 for 3, 3 runs, 3 RBI's, home run), Michael Costello (2 for 2, run, RBI, home run), Tommy Costello (2 for 2, run, 2 RBI's, triple), Anthony Mancini (2 for 2, run), and Ryan Farley (1 for 2, run). The NL's defense was led by Tousignant who made a brilliant play up the middle at SS to prevent two runs from scoring, Gonzalez who played a strong 2B, and Connor Skarzynski who made a great catch in right field in the 9th inning. The AL's defense was led by strong play at 3B from Mack Phillips, a great catch in centerfield from Jay Falvey that led to a double play, and a nice over the shoulder catch from Andrew Gingold at 2B.

Pitching from both teams was strong as 16 different pitchers were used. For the NL, Andrew Skwiot, Carl Nicklas, Tousignant, Joe Morganthaler, Peter Simplicio, Chase Rancourt, Gabe Salomons, Tim Cotter, and Griffin Van Rye pitched. For the AL, Michael Costello, Tommy Costello, Jack McGovern, Max Leyland, Gage Doorman, Andrew Gingold, and Jack Livingstone pitched.

Minor League All Star Game

The AL All-Star bats put on an offensive display in this one pounding out 14 hits and 18 runs over 7 innings to beat the NL All-Stars in a hard fought game. Jack Correia from Sliders and Cooper Silver from Joey's Pizza both pitched scoreless frames in the 1st in a game that looked like a pitcher's duel early. The AL bats then came alive starting in the 2nd inning as they scored 5 in the 2nd, 4 in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th, 4 in the 5th, and 2 in the 6th. Ethan Raisner from Rizzuto's delivered a big two out bases loaded 3 RBI double in the 2nd to start the scoring for the AL. Ryan Murphy from Beachland Tavern had two extra base hits later in the game and 2 RBI's. Peter Langevin from Harry's Pizza, Matt Gelinas from Pepe's Pizza, and Declan McCann from Beachland Tavern also had big RBI hits. The NL All-Stars rallied for 4 runs in the 3rd to cut the deficit to 9-4, but would get no closer the rest of the game as strong pitching down the stretch from Murphy, Langevin, and Jack Redmond from Harry's Pizza kept the NL bats quiet.

The AL's offense was led by Murphy (3 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBI's, double, triple), Raisner (1 for 2, double 3 RBI's), Langevin (1 for 1, 2 runs, 3 RBI's), McCann (1 for 3, run, 2 RBI's), Redmond (1 for 1, 2 runs), Gelinas (2 for 3, 2 RBI's), Shane Bradley (1 for 2, 2 runs), Finn McHugh (1 for 2, run, RBI), Silver (3 runs), Chuck Blanchard (1 for 3, run), Nathan Gallo (single), Nick Peterson (2 runs) and Kyle Barnum (single). The NL's offense was led by Goldberg's Tommy Cancian (2 for 2, run), Tucker Redden (1 for 3, run, RBI, triple), Cody Brew (3 BB's) and Jake Samela (1 for 2, run, RBI, double), Sliders Cam Laney (1 for 2, run), and Jack Correia (1 for 2), Effie's Place's Lexus Laureta (1 for 2, run, run, 2 RBI's), and Dick's Sporting Goods Harry Nelson (1 for 2, run).

The AL used 7 different pitchers to limit the NL All-Stars to 9 hits and 7 runs, led by scoreless innings from Silver, McHugh, Redmond, and Langevin. Murphy, Landon Traverse, and Griffin Paulus also pitched well. The NL used 8 different pitchers and were led by scoreless innings from Correia, Nick Kane, and Jake Samela. Cancian, Laney, Mac Louis, Quinn Navin, Brew and Laney also pitched well.
