West Hartford 15 Beth-Wood 4
Congratulations to the West Hartford 9U Warriors! With their 15-4 victory over Beth-Wood this morning they were crowned Cal Ripken district champions and will move on to the state tournament in three weeks.
Warriors fans sat on the edge of their seats through the first four innings as the team was down 2-1 and the bats (and the boys) appeared to be a little sleepy. But in the top of the fifth the bats came alive and the Warriors scored seven runs in each of the fifth and the sixth innings to overwhelm Beth-Wood and sew up the district championship.
The district tournament was truly a team effort, with every player making a significant contribution along the way. Today’s offensive top performers included Jack Kennedy (2 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs), Bobby LaChance (2 hits, 1 walk, 3 runs), and Teddy Keegan (1 hit, 3 walks, 2 runs). On the mound, Drew Seidman pitched 4 strong innings and Mitch Baboff pitched a perfect sixth to wrap up the championship.
Awesome job Warriors! The team takes it’s 6-0 record into local play which will resume on Tuesday with a game against Simsbury in West Hartford.

West Hartford 16 Simsbury 2
The 9U Warriors cruised to a 16-2 victory over Simsbury tonight in the first game of the Mountain/River tournament at Fern Park.
The team notched a relatively easy win with only 6 hits as Simsbury struggled to find the strike zone most of the night walking 15 batters. The Warriors has strong pitching once again to counter. Christian Pedro got the win with two scoreless innings to start the game and Mitch Baboff and Seth Ehrlich brought it home.
Top performers on offense for the Warriors were Teddy Keegan (1 hit, 2 walks, 3 runs) and Eli Salomons (2-run double, 2 walks). Newcomer Shane Bradley walked on all 3 trips to the plate.

The Athletics held on for an 8-6 victory over the Pirates. The A's built an 8 to 1 lead after three innings, lead offensively by Sean Hurley ( 3-3, 3 runs ,double, 2 rbis), Ethan Tiffany (2 runs), Matthew Gelinas (1-3, one run), Sam Patterson (1-2, 2 walks), and Aarik Googe-Rochester (1 run). Pirate relievers Max Leyland (3 k's) and Peter Simplicio (2 k's) shut down the A's offense over the final three innings, and both worked themselves out bases loaded jams without giving up a run. The Pirate's infield also turned a nice double play to end the fifth. The Pirate's bats rallied in the 4th, with a big 5 run inning, with John Ledwith, George Andrews, and Simplicio all delivering key hits and scoring runs (also scoring were Dylan Jackson and Andrew Mazzatto). A's closer Liam Langan doused the Pirate's comeback as he fire-balled his way through a 1-2-3 fifth and sixth innings, notching 5 straight strikeouts.

Cardinals 18 Orioles 2
The Cardinals used strong pitching, solid defense and a balance offense to defeat the Orioles 18-2 in the season opener for both teams.
In a true team fashion, the Cardinals managed to score at least one run in every inning, and had 11 of their 13 players score at least one run. Hitting highlights were a triple by Andrew Skwiot, 3 RBI's for Ben Foxman and three runs scored for Xaviel Amarat.
All four Cardinals pitchers were effective. They combined to only give up 2 runs, had 12 K's and only 5 walks - and only one inning with more than 1 walk. Two pitchers - Andrew Skwiot and Carl Nicklas managed to strike out the side.
The Orioles were led on offense by Drew LaCasse who led the team with 2 hits and a run scored. Scott LaBranch did a great job behind the plate, catching the entire game.
