My Sunscreen Does What?!

What's in a Sunscreen?

Now that summer is here, we tend to enjoy the outdoors more. More BBQ's, walks and bike rides! When we go outside, we tend to wear lots of sunscreen so we don't get burned. But, what is sunscreen? What makes the product?

Most sunscreens contain ingredients that can be harmful. Most contain stuff that can cause skin allergies and disrupt our hormones. And further, there is no proof that sunscreens protect from most skin cancers. Rates of melanoma has tripled over the last 35 years. And, yes there is more... we get vitamin D from the sun. Vitamin D strengthens bones and the immune system and reduces the risk of breast, colon, kidney and ovarian cancers.

Check out the Environmental Working Groups 2013 Guide to Sunscreens. Check where your current sunscreen stacks up. You may be surprised!
