What is Considered Household Hazardous Waste?

Household hazardous waste is products that can cause a threat to public health or the environment. You may be surprised at the amount of this stuff you have in your home.

Do you have old paint cans in your garage? An old car battery hanging around? These may be pretty obvious examples of hazardous waste. But, did you know that the products that you clean your home are also included in this category?

Check your labels. If they have the words "danger", "flammable", "warning" or "caution", they can be hazardous to your health.

Each spring and fall , the MDC (Metropolitan District Commission) conducts a regional household hazardous waste collection program at a series of local sites. They collect the waste and dispose of it through safe, environmentally responsible practices.

If you would like more information on what items they accept and don't accept, visit http://themdc.com/haz13infopack.pdf. There, you can also find the drop of day for the town that you live in.

So, get rid of this stuff and look for healthier options to clean your home with!
