Bristow Middle School is West Hartford's third middle school. It opened in 2005 and draws students from throughout the town based on a lottery. Bristow has about 400 students in grades 6-8, which makes it the smallest middle school in the area. The school was named after a slave who, in 1775, bought his freedom from Thomas Hart Hooker.
