The West Hartford Fire Department operates five fire stations in town, covering 18,000 residential properties and more than 2,600 commercial, educational, religious and industrial properties. With 94 people on staff and a budget of more than $9 million, the department provides fire prevention and education services, inspections, and emergency management services, as well as responding to calls. The Fire Deparment is managed by Chief William Austin.
