Steve I hope this gets to you in time. Don't go on that egg hunt! Apparently you have never seen an…Read More Easter egg hunt before. After the egg hunt starting cannon roars, hundreds of undisciplined kids and hooligans rush the field grabbing for everything they can find. Heaven forbid you find and pick up an egg, they will be all over you. You'll be lucky to keep your shoes. Suggest that you and Peaches clutch your valuables and head for the exits ASAP. And by the way do you realize that your magic hat is changing color. Is it due to a natural phenomenon? No one could own that many hats.

In the recently published "From Soldier to Schoolboy" a letter from 20-year old Stanley…Read More Abbot to his sister on December 15, 1861 describes the reason for the Civil War as follows:
I, in my heart, believe that the cause for which this war is undertaken is a just and politic one, that it needs a million hands to carry it on, and that every man that is free from the burden of supporting others ought to give up his time, the furtherance of his own plans, and, if need be, his life to help in assuring the ultimate triumph of this cause.
The question we have to decide is simply this: shall America in the coming centuries, when her children are numbered by hundreds of millions, be desolated by long and bloody wars such as have been the agony and have assured the slavery of Europe since her history began? I for one say "No." It can be avoided by maintaining one great empire through the length and breadth of the continent. To maintain this empire is worth their every sacrifice it is within the power of the people to make. No price that can be paid is too high, and now the question comes up, can we maintain the cause for which we are fighting? Have we the physical power to do that? I own I am in painful doubt.
