Some GREAT Fats
Dr Chris Chase May 22, 2013 at 01:04 pm
Mike, thank you for your question. Oleic oils (corn, rape seed/canola) are an alternative to transRead More and hydrogenated fats - BUT (always a but).... They are high in Omega- 6 and 9, which are essential fats BUT (another but), too much Omega-6 and 9 also blocks Omega-3. The ratio should be of Omega-6/9 to Omega-3 is 2 to 1 or 4 to 1 BUT current reality is conservatively 20-1, but more likely 40 -1 - which is very bad. This is the bad part... You do not want Omega-3 to be blocked at all - this is critical for the structure of your nervous system (brain/spinal cord) and is vital for effective communication between nerves and a strong immune system. SAD or Standard American Diet is too high in Omega-6 and 9. So, I recommend to my patients to consume more Omega-3 and less of 6,9, trans and hydrogenated. So to answer your question - it's better than trans or hydrogenated - just use it sparingly.
