The University of Hartford was founded in 1957 as a merger of the Hartford Art School, the Hartt School of Music and…More Hillyer College. The university offers nearly 90 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate degree programs. The school boasts a Division 1 athletics program involving 18 sports.
Undergraduates number about 4,700 on campus, with another 800 part-time undergraduates and 1,700 graduate students. Students come from about 45 states and 49 countries.

In 1958, after several incarnations and locations, Renbrook moved to its 75-acre campus off Albany Avenue on Avon Mountain. The school's current campus includes art studios, band rooms, two theaters, three computer labs, and five science spaces, among other features. Its 16,000 square foot Library & Technology center is also heated and cooled using geothermal technology.
The school is divided into Beginning (3s, JK and full-day kindergarten), Lower (Grades 1-5) and Upper (Grades 6-9) divisions. Foreign language studies begin in JK and interscholastic sports start in sixth grade. Before- and afterschool child care is available as well as a school-run, popular summer camp called Summer Adventure.
