Wolcott Principal Announces Retirement Plans

Dr. Plato Karafelis announced Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the school year.

Wolcott Elementary School will have a new leader at its helm next fall for the first time in a quarter century.

Dr. Plato Karafelis, who has been principal for 25 years, announced Wednesday that he plans to retire at the end of the current academic year. The following is the text of a letter sent to the Wolcott community:

March 20, 2013

Dear Wolcott Parents,

I am both sad and delighted to announce that I will be retiring at the end of this academic year. For 25 years, the people of the Wolcott community have delivered a bounty of love to my family and me. We feel so blessed to have known each and every one of you. Sharon, Lexi, Chloe and I have many plans for an exciting and adventurous future. The girls are off to college and very excited to start their own "next chapter." Sharon and I will travel, play golf, dance and enjoy spending time with family and friends. I feel like the most fortunate person in the world. Thank you for a great life.

Fondly,

Dr. K

Prior to this announcement, there were four vacant principal positions in the West Hartford Public Schools. Details about the search for a new principal at Wolcott will be provided as soon as they are available.
