Dressed to the Nines Moves to New West Hartford Center Location

New location at 1000 Farmington Ave. is two doors down from the old.

Bob DeGemmis, owner of Dressed to the Nines in West Hartford Center, didn’t have far to look when he decided to move his custom men’s clothing store to a new location.

La Perla Jewelers at 1000 Farmington Ave. recently went out of business two doors down from Dressed to the Nines’ location at 994 Farmington Ave. and DeGemmis decided to snap it up. The move is nearly complete, DeGemmis said in a recent telephone interview.

“It’s been a little crazy,” DeGemmis said. “I’m trying to wrap up carpenters, electricians and sign guys. … We’ll probably have a grand opening in a month.”

Dressed to the Nines’ new location is 1,100 square feet, nearly all which is floor space, DeGemmis said, as compared to just 600 square feet in the prior location.

The custom clothier had been in West Hartford Center for about a year, he said. He was happy with the old location, but he’s thrilled in the new space.

“Things have been moving along well. But this is probably one of the best windows on Farmington Avenue,” DeGemmis said. “This space probably wouldn’t be available when my [old] lease was up in two years, so I decided to take it now.”

Dressed to the Nines offers custom men’s clothing: suits, sport coats, trousers, shirts, tuxedos and top coats.

“Just about anything you can think of for a guy to get dressed up,” DeGemmis said.

The added space means that DeGemmis will be able to offer more “accessories and furnishings,” such as jewelry, ties and scarves.

“I’m really excited,” DeGemmisa said. “It’s a unique place. There’s not a place like this between Boston and New York. We’re a custom shop. We will have some ready-to-wear things in the new space, but we’re primarily custom.”

Dressed to the Nines is just one of several West Hartford Center businesses that is expanding. Penzeys Spices is nearly doubling its size, and Treva Restaurant and Bar owner Dorjan Puka is opening a French brasserie - Avert - as a sister restaurant in the Center.
