Webster Bank Branch on North Main Street to Get a Facelift

After 50 years, the West Hartford institution will get major improvements.

After 50 years, the Webster Bank branch at 774 Main St. is getting a facelift.

Indeed, the West Hartford Town Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a change to the special development district in which the bank branch is located to allow Webster to refurbish the building and the surrounding area also at 714-772.

Specifically, the Webster Bank branch’s facade will be renovated to include new signage and the addition of a new canopy to be installed over an expanded drive-through.

The expanded drive-through will include a vehicle bypass lane, a drive-up ATM and a drive-up remote teller pneumatic tube.

There will also be added pedestrian, bicycle, parking and landscaping amenities.

The 2,450-square-foot building won’t be expanded except for a 38-square-foot addition to the vestibule. The inside will also be refurbished to include four offices and a revised teller area. But the outside character of the building will remain intact.

No neighbors objected to the plans, according to Webster Bank representatives.

Diane Tucker and James Needham sat in for Denise Hall and Harry Captain on the council for the vote due to conflicts.
