Hartt offers Children’s Ballet Classes at Simsmore Square

Children’s Ballet Program for ages 5-7 at Simsmore Square

It's fun to dance with other kids! Children's dance classes inspire joy and creativity through movement and the structured environment also lays the groundwork for further learning in advanced levels of dance.

The Children’s Dance Program gives youngsters a solid start in dance. With progressive offerings in ballet and tap, young dancers grow through the program and continually add to what they learn. The curriculum prepares students for continued training in Hartt’s Foundation Ballet Program or Youth Open Program and students have opportunities to perform in the Hartt Community Division’s full-length ballets. Beginning dancers between the ages of 5-7 are welcome to join the program and are carefully placed at the level that suits and challenges them best. Participants in the Toddler and Pre-K Dance Program may also advance to the Children’s Program when they turn 5.

Our Pre-Ballet, Preparatory and Primary Ballet classes focus on the fundamentals of ballet technique, emphasizing proper placement, safe progression of movement and healthy physical development. Students develop an increased understanding of ballet into the next levels. Students enrolled in Primary Plus attend class twice per week and move at a more accelerated pace.

Our Children's Tap program provides 5 to 7 year olds with a solid foundation in tap. Students learn tap dance steps and terminology, focusing on rhythm, musicality, agility and syncopation. Individuality and creativeity are nurtured as children learn the fundamentals of this high-energy dance form.

Classes run for 35 weeks from September through June. Tuition is prorated after the first week of class. Hartt offer's the Children's Ballet Program at its Simsmore Square location on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Visitwww.hcd.hartford.edu for a current schedule of classes.
