Attempt to Pick Up Discarded Sofa in West Hartford Leads to Narcotics Charges

Two Hartford men were charged in the Monday night incident.

West Hartford Police said that two Hartford men who wanted to pick up a couch left at the curb in a West Hartford neighborhood are now faced with breach of peace and narcotics charges after a misunderstanding by the homeowner resulted in a call to the police.

According to police, Anthony Almedina, 34, and Pablo Arduiz, 30, both of Hartford, saw a couch discarded in front on a house at 19 Foxridge Rd. in West Hartford at approximately 9 p.m. Monday. Police spokesman Lt. Frank Fallon said that according to the report, the men tried to ask the homeowner if it was okay for them to take the couch.

When the men came to the door, Fallon said, the homeowner thought they were acting strangely, was afraid they were breaking in, and called police.

Police arrived on the scene, which had turned into a disturbance in the neighborhood, and confronted the men, Fallon said. They determined that the men were not breaking into the home, but both were found to be in possession of narcotics.

Almedina and Arduiz were both charged with possession of narcotics as well as breach of peace. Both were released on $1,500 bond.
