West Hartford Police Apprehend Four Suspects in Armed Robbery

Shots fired during robbery that occurred Saturday night at the Solid Gold Jewelry Store in West Hartford.

Four men have been arrested by West Hartford Police and charged in connection with an armed robbery that took place Saturday, March 30 at the Solid Gold Jewelry Store at 38 Kane St. Police responded to the robbery at approximately 8:12 p.m.

According to police, employees of the Solid Gold stated that "three men, white or Hispanic, entered the store with a gun, fired a round into the ceiling, and stole approximately $60,000 worth of gold chains." Police said that the suspects wore masks and hoods as well as gloves.

Detectives investigated and police say that media coverage of the incident led to tips which resulting in their obtaining of search warrants for two locations in Norwich and one in New Britain.

Thomas Ibbison, 26, of 150 Yantic St. apt 109, Norwich; Edward Makara, 34, of 41 South Main St., Jewitt City; Luis Carlos Burgos, 39, of 466 Norwich Ave.,  Norwich; and Kenneth Bryant, 38, of 462 Norwich Ave., Norwich were all charged with first degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree larceny, and first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.

Ibbison was also charged with two counts of assault of public safety personnel. Police said that he fought with two West Hartford detectives who were attempting to arrest him. Both detectives required medical attention for their injuries which included strains and contusions.

According to West Hartford Police, Norwich, Willimantic, and New Britain Police departments assisted during the investigation.

Police said that they are continuing their investigation.
