West Hartford Zoning Commission Rejects Office Building Plan

Counselors say office building proposal would erode residential area.

Citing the need to preserve the area’s residential character and concerns over traffic, the Town Plan and Zoning Commission recently vetoed a plan to knock down office buildings at 15 and 17 North Main St. and build a three-story office building in their place, according to the Hartford Courant.

The plan, which would put an 18,500 building the existing building and make way for office building with a bank on the first floor. The property is currently zoned residential office but would have to be rezoned central business, if the plan goes ahead.

Adjoining properties are also under the BC zone though, in vetoing the plan zoning alternate Elizabeth Gillette said it would further degrade the residential character of the area, the Courant said.
