Friends of Fernridge Park, Neighbor

The Friends of Fernridge Park was established in 2011 to ensure that the park continues to be a place where generations come to play. Our vision is simple: “Fernridge Park will be a neighborhood park that welcomes current and future generations with a variety of active and passive recreational experiences for people of all ages in a beautiful natural setting.”

To achieve this vision we partner with the Town of West Hartford to maintain and enhance the park’s natural beauty and recreational resources through advocacy, planning, community engagement, and fundraising.

WHAT WE’VE DONE

ADVOCATE

• Consulted with town officials prior to construction of new pool and new playscape.

• Suggested adding parking spaces along Whitman Avenue to alleviate neighborhood congestion during baseball games. The town accomplished this at no extra cost.

PLAN

• Developed a long-term vision for the park to guide town officials and residents in making future decisions about the park.

• Reached out to the community via public meetings and online survey to refine plan development.

ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY

• Conducted annual park cleanup days

• Established a Little Free Library in the Park

• Held numerous pool parties and community gatherings in the park.
